Call to Artists The Cambridge Art Association has extended the deadline for their Red Biennial 2013. Open to artists living in the Northeast working in all media. Show dates: December 11, 2013 – January 24, 2014. This year’s juror is Amy Sadao, Daniel Dietrich II Director of the Institute of Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania. Learn more.

Latino Films and Filmmakers San Diego Latino Film Festival (March 13-23, 2014, San Diego, CA) is seeking innovative works by, about, or for the Latino community, produced between 2012-2014, in a range of genres and lengths. Submission fees range from $25-$60. Learn more.
Deadline: October 11, 2013 (regular), November 8, 2013 (late)

Artist-Entrepreneurs Applications are now being accepted for the Assets for Artists‘ fall 2013 grant cycle for artist-entrepreneurs living or operating their creative business anywhere in Massachusetts. Eligible applicants include artists in all disciplines – visual artists, performers, designers, photographers, film-makers, artisans, etc. – whose practice would benefit from the opportunity to receive working capital funds and improve their financial and business management skills to make valuable investments aimed at growing their creative enterprises. Filmmakers Indie Boots Film Festival is seeking short film (20 minutes maximum) submissions for the annual spring festival in Chicago. DVD and online submissions accepted. All genres are welcome, especially ones with featured underrepresented characters (women, people of color, LGBTQ characters, etc.). No fee. Learn more.
Deadline: October 15, 2013 (early), January 15, 2014 (regular), February 14, 2014 (late)

Female Poets with First Books Persea Books offers the Lexi Rudnitsky First Book Prize of $1,000 and publication, given annually for an unpublished, first book of poetry by a woman in the United States. The winner also receives a six-week, all-expenses-paid residency at the Civitella Ranieri Center in Umbria, Italy. Submit a manuscript of at least 40 pages with a $25 entry fee. Learn more.

Drawing The University of North Carolina Asheville invites artists to submit entries to Drawing Discourse, a national juried exhibition of contemporary drawing. Accepted work will be exhibited in UNC Asheville’s S. Tucker Cooke Gallery from January 17-March 17, 2014. The exhibition will be accompanied by $750 of awards and a full color catalogue. $30 submission fee for one image, $5 each additional image. Read the prospectus (PDF).
Deadline: November 4, 2013 (for mailed submissions); November 17, 2013 (for online submissions using CAFÉ)

Public Art Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative (DSNI), in collaboration with residents and a broad range of community-based partners, is seeking to commission a professional artist, artisan, architect, landscape architect, or teams thereof to create artwork for permanent display in the Upham’s Corner neighborhood of Dorchester. Strong preference will be given to local artists and to artists who demonstrate an interest in community-led art making processes. Budget: up to $500,000. See submission guidelines and read full RFQ.
Deadline: Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 2:59PM

Photographers Entries are now being accepted for the Aperture Portfolio Prize 2014. First prize is $3,000 and an exhibition at Aperture Gallery. The first-prize winner and up to five runners-up will be featured on Aperture’s website, where their images will be accompanied by a brief statement written by Aperture staff. Learn more.
Deadline: November 27, 2013, at 12:00 pm EDT.

Of Note October 10, 2013 marks the first workshop in the Fall 2013 Professional Artists Series at Danforth Art. Workshops in October and November on business, marketing, copyright, and other career-advancing topics for artists are offered by experienced local art professionals. Learn more.
