The Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program is a vital part of Mass Cultural Council’s strategy to help the many diverse communities in Massachusetts preserve their cultural heritage. Through one-on-on mentorships, the Apprenticeships help strengthen traditional arts – especially those that may be endangered.
We are pleased to share three new videos, telling the stories of recent apprenticeships in Indian tabla with Mentor Artist Sandeep Das and his young apprentice, bird taxidermy with Mentor Artist Victor Cole and Apprentice Nicole Baldelli, and Western bootmaking with Mentor Artist Sarah Madeleine Tierney Guerin and Apprentice Diana Wagner. The videos were created by Daniel Jacobs, in partnership with Folk Arts & Heritage Program Manager Maggie Holtzberg.
