Open Call New England Art Center has issued an open call for Beyond the Expected: Art in Flux, exhibiting September 6 – 29, 2024 at Galatea Fine Art in Boston. Artists are invited to submit up to two pieces of artwork that embody the theme “Beyond the Expected: Art in Flux.” This theme highlights the artist’s ability to innovate continually, adapt their practices, and explore new frontiers in artistic expression. It suggests artistic processes incorporating elements of chance, spontaneity, or unexpected outcomes, and may refer to works created through experimental techniques or unconventional materials. Artist-in-Residence New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park has announced the open application period for the 2025 Artist-in-Residence program to foster creative exploration and community engagement through the arts. Since 2017, the park has hosted poets, painters, social practice artists, performance artists, writers, collage artists, photographers, textile artists, printmakers, sound artists, musicians, comic illustrators, and marine debris artists. The park offers: $2,500 stipend, studio space, $250 stipend for supplies, and professional development opportunities. Artadia Artist Awards The Artadia Awards provide financial support, exposure and recognition to artists. The awards are unrestricted, allowing artists to use the funds in any way they choose. Applicants must be a contemporary visual artist, making artwork for presentation in a contemporary art context: museum, galleries, arts non-profit, the public art realm, etc. Artadia does not fund filmmakers making films for distribution in cinematic venues, or those working in choreography presented outside of a contemporary art context. Marine Debris Reused for Art The Center for Coastal Studies in Provincetown is hosting a week-long shoreline cleanup on five of the Boston Harbor Islands and anticipates removing tons of wood, plastic and metal debris items. In the past, the Center has diverted some debris materials to artists whose work utilizes marine debris. The Center invites artists from all disciplines to partake in its Boston Harbor Islands cleanup project and collect diverted materials to use in their future artistic output. Adolph & Esther Gottlieb Emergency Grant Program The Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Emergency Grant program is intended to provide interim financial assistance to qualified painters, printmakers, and sculptors whose needs are the result of an unforeseen, catastrophic incident, and who lack the resources to meet that situation. Each grant is given as one-time assistance for a specific emergency, examples of which are fire, flood, or emergency medical need. The program does not consider requests for dental work, chronic situations, capital improvements, or projects of any kind; nor can it consider situations resulting from general indebtedness or lack of employment. The maximum amount of this grant is $15,000; an award of $5,000 is typical. Learn more.
