Nominations for 2024 Governor’s Award in the Humanities Do you know a local humanities leader? Nominate them for a 2024 Governor’s Award in the Humanities today! Nominations of leaders whose public actions are grounded in an appreciation of the humanities and who have acted to enhance civic life in the Commonwealth are currently being accepted. Learn more.

The Puffin Foundation 2024 Annual Artist Grant Program In 2024 the Puffin Foundation will be funding proposals in the genres of environmental artistic activism, fine arts, music and photography. Average grants are approximately $1,250. Learn more.

Mosaic Mural Cambridge Arts, the City of Cambridge’s arts agency, is looking for artists to design mosaic-murals for the Fire Department Headquarters, which is being renovated, and a new Tobin Montessori and Vassal Lane Upper Schools Complex. Four artists will be selected to collaborate with a custom mosaic fabricator to turn their designs into custom mosaic-murals. One artist will design two mosaic-murals for the Fire Department Headquarters, and three artists will design three mosaic-murals for the Tobin Montessori and Vassal Lane Upper Schools complex. Each artist will be paid approximately $40,000. Learn more.

Free Professional Development Workshops for Artists Assets for Artists Workshops at Mass MoCA is offering free professional development workshops online and in-person for artists and creatives. Upcoming workshops include: Planning With Your Whole Self in Your Art Practice with John Vo on Wednesdays, November 29, December 6 & 13, 2023 | 6:00 – 8:00 PM (in Zoom) and An Introduction to Cooperatives in the Arts with Daniel Park of Obvious Agency, Thursday, December 14, 2023 | 2:00 – 5:00 PM (in Zoom). Mass Cultural Council’s Grants for Creative Individuals The program offers unrestricted, $5,000 grants to artists, culture bearers, and creative practitioners. We welcome applications from individuals in all creative fields: visual artists, literary artists, theater artists, performers, film/media artists, music artists, designers, culture bearers/traditional artists, drag artists, cross-disciplinary artists, and more. Join us for an information session on December 5, 5 PM. You can also ask questions of staff at online office hours on select Wednesdays in November/December, at 11 AM.  Read the program guidelines and apply now.

Call to Artists The Mattatuck Museum is extending a call for submissions for its 9th annual juried competition, MIXMASTER. The juror will select a number of artworks to be exhibited at the Mattatuck in early 2024, and winners will receive cash prizes, upgraded memberships, and even a solo show at the Museum in Fall 2024. Artists from Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, and New Jersey who are members of the Museum are eligible for entry. Learn more.

Fine Arts Work Center Writing Fellowship The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown is accepted applications for their writing fellowship. The fellowship offers 20 seven-month residencies to a juried group of emerging fiction writers and poets. Each Fellow receives an apartment and a monthly stipend of $1,250 plus an exit stipend of $1,000. Learn more.

Performing Artists Project Funds Applications are currently being accepted for the MAP Fund. The 2024 grant cycle will provide more than 90 new live performances in the US with $31,000: $25,000 for project funds, $5,000 for unrestricted general operations, and a $1,000 microgrant to redistribute to another artist in their community. Dune Shack Residencies Provincetown Community Compact Dune Shack Residencies open for 2024 for the general public, with designated stays for a Native American, visual artists, an emerging artist of color and writers. The Provincetown Compact Compact announces 2024 dune shack residency applications are now open. The Compact is pleased to offer residencies for C-Scape and Fowler Dune Shacks in the Cape Cod National Seashore, available April through November for the general public. The Compact also offers three, 3-week artist and two writer residencies in Fowler and C-Scape Dune Shacks, including the David Bethuel Jamieson Residency for an emerging artist of color, named for the late David Bethuel Jamieson, an African-American artist who spent time in Provincetown and died of AIDS in 1992. The top recipient of this residency will receive three funded weeks in the C-Scape Dune Shack and a $500 fellowship. Another 3-week stay also includes a $500 fellowship. Filmmakers New England-based directors and producers seeking production and post-production funds for feature-length (40+ min) nonfiction film and video projects are encouraged to apply for LEF’s next grant deadline on January 19, 2024.The Moving Image Fund’s Production and Post-production grants have a two-part application process. Filmmakers interested in applying for project support must first submit a letter of inquiry. A maximum of seven (7) grants of $15,000 each will be awarded to projects in the Production phase, and a maximum of four (4) grants of $25,000 each will be awarded to projects in the Post-production phase during LEF’s major grants review. Deadline: Letters of inquiry are due on January 19, 2024 at 11:59pm

Of Note: The Cultural Equity Learning Community (CELC) is a self-paced, asynchronous anti-racism training open to arts and culture leaders committed to building intersectional racial equity. Registration is open now through January 19, 2024, for the Spring 2024 cohort which runs from February – August 2024. Offered on a pay-what-you-can scale, the CELC offers affinity tracks for BIPOC and white arts leaders, both featuring inspiring lectures, guided reflections, artist features, office hours, peer-to-peer learning, and additional resources.
