Call for Emerging Visual Artists Real Art Ways’ STEP UP is a series of six solo exhibitions open to emerging artists living in New York, New Jersey or New England. Learn more.

Muralist The Somerville Arts Council seeks an artist for the creation of a mural for the residences at 60-64 Derby Street in Somerville. The mural location will be along the retaining wall at the back of the property but will be visible from the street as well. Work should be on wood panels and will need to be applied to the wall by artist. Approx. 99.3 feet across split into 2 sections. 52 feet are at a height of 5.2 feet and 47 feet at a height of 6.5 feet. Compensation: $2,500 which includes supplies and labor. Contact Gillian Cook at artscouncil.somerville@gmail.com for more information.

Pop-up Art Interventions Pop Up! Dudley Connections, will be a month-long series of temporary art interventions in Dudley Square in Boston. Selected proposals will receive funding of up to $1,500 per project. Artists working in any medium, including performance art, are welcome to apply. Learn more. Poetry Entries are now being accepted for the University of Akron Press’s Poetry Prize. A prize of $1,500 and publication by University of Akron Press is given annually for a poetry collection. Maxine Chernoff will judge. Learn more.

Poetry The Cultural Center of Cape Cod offers a national ($1,000) and regional ($250) prize for an unpublished poem that has not won a national competition. Submit up to three poems totaling no more than five pages with a $15 entry fee. George Bilgere will judge. Learn more.

Artist Residency The Wassaic Artist Residency in New York, is currently accepting 1-6 month proposals for their 2014/2015 Winter Residency Season. Artists receive an adaptable raw studio space in the Old Hotel in the Maxon Mills, as well as living accommodations. Artists also have access to workshop facilities and the possibility of working outside. The winter residency workshop facilities include a full wood shop. Learn more.

Short Fiction Collection University of Pittsburgh Press offers the Drue Heinz Literature Prize, a $15,000 award and publication by University of Pittsburgh Press, to a collection of short fiction. Open to writers who have published a book of fiction or a minimum of three short stories or novellas in nationally distributed literary journals/magazines. Past recipients include Elizabeth Graver. Watercolors Entries are now being accepted for the Rhode Island Watercolor Society’s Northeast Regional Watermedia competition. All work must be painted with water media on paper, unvarnished and framed under glass or Plexiglas. No collage, pastels, mixed media, pen&ink, color copies or computer generated work. Learn more.
