Emerging Writers Entries are currently being accepted for the Ploughshares Emerging Writer’s Contest. Open to writers of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry who have yet to publish or self-publish a book. The winning story, essay, and poems will be published in the Winter 2023-24 issue of Ploughshares. Fee: $24 (free for subscribers to Ploughshares). Learn more.

Emergency Grants The Rauschenberg Medical Emergency Grants program provides one-time grants of up to $5,000 for recent unexpected medical, dental, and mental health emergencies to artists in financial need who are creating in the visual arts, film/video/electronic/digital arts, and choreography. Filmmakers Developed in partnership with LEF New England, LEF/CIFF Fellowship is an opportunity for 5 New England-based filmmaking teams to attend the 2023 Camden International Film Festival and connect with other filmmakers and industry leaders through a series of mentor-led project development workshops, networking events, and curated 1:1 meetings taking place both in-person during the festival and virtually in the weeks following. Call to Artists Entries are currently being accepted for the Copley Society of Art’s National Show, Through Hoppers Lens. In this year’s National Show, open to all artists residing in the United States, artists are encouraged to submit artwork inspired by American born painter, Edward Hopper. He was noted for his fascination with light and his observations of American life, depictions of urban life, coastal landscapes and architecture. They invite your entries and interpretations and are looking for your best work in both 2D and 3D mediums of this theme in order to present a cohesive show in their Boston gallery on historic Newbury Street from July 6 through August 19, 2023. Greater Boston Artists Collective Futures Fund supports visual artists and artist-run activity in the Greater Boston area through grants between $2,000 and $6,000. The Collective Futures Fund is now accepting applications for Sustaining Practice grants of $2,000; New Work/Projects grants of up to $6,000; and Ongoing projects grants of up to $6,000. Learn more.

The Nancy Dean Award for Lesbian Playwrights 2023 The Nancy Dean award for Lesbian Playwrights is to honor a woman who was at the forefront of Lesbian, queer, gay, genderqueer, gender-nonconforming, trans, intersex and people of color movements. They will announce the recipients October 31, 2023. They have been granting three awards of $5000, $2500 and $1250. Requirements: writer is lesbian, queer or gay or nonbinary; writer has written at least one play; writer is writing plays about lesbians; writer is committed to writing plays and furthering her/their career; writer is interested in receiving the award. East Village Queer Film Festival East Village Queer Film Festival (EVQ) celebrates queer film in all it’s glorious diversity. We welcome filmmakers who entertain, explore and promote queer-themed issues and as well as the downtown avant garde. EVQ’s further goal is community building through queer cinema. EVQ promotes the work of queer film and fosters a highly inclusive environment for all artists. You don’t have to be LGBTQ+ to submit your film but you do have to be Queer. EVQ will present awards for Best Feature Film, Best Short Film, Best “Future Cult Classic” & Best Music Video. Learn more.

Festivals & Projects Grants Mass Cultural Council is now accepting grant applications for Festivals & Projects. The Festivals & Projects provides one-year grants of $2,500 to support public activities incorporating the arts, humanities, or sciences, taking place between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024.
