Palette-able Artist Opportunities

Call to Artists Applications are now being accepted for the Art Miami Beach open call juried exhibitions. Art Miami Beach is looking for the best in not-yet-seen-before new work. To prevent lobbying, finalists selected by a blind panel of distinguished jurors will be given space to exhibit one work from their application at Art Miami Beach. Works selected by the panel will be exhibited at Art Miami Beach in an astutely written-on survey section. This open call is available to all artists practicing in every media, in and outside of the Miami area. Learn more.

Playwrights Firehouse Theatre Project Festival of New American Plays (July 8-11, 2011, Richmond, VA). Two winners will receive staged readings and prizes of $1,000 and $500. Plays must not have been previously produced. No fee. Read more.

Request for Proposals The Urbano Project invites professional artists and artist teams to propose interdisciplinary and experimental contemporary arts and performance projects in partnership with urban teens in Urbano’s studio. Learn more.

Filmmakers The Camden International Film Festival (CIFF) is seeking submissions for its 2nd Points North Pitch. The Points North Pitch is part of the Points North Documentary Forum, a conference component that runs concurrently with CIFF from Sept. 29 – Oct. 2, 2011 throughout Camden and Rockland, ME. Open to all New England based non-fiction films in development. All genres and subject matter will be considered. Read more.

Portrait Artists The Belmont Gallery of Art (BGA) announces a call for artists (18 years old+) to participate in its upcoming juried Fall Portrait Show, Sept. 30 – Nov. 13, 2011. Portrait painter Jennie Summerall, whose painting of biologist and author Edward O. Wilson hangs in the National Portrait Gallery will be guest juror for the exhibit. Portraits, as defined by the show, should be a representation of a particular person or animal. The work may be traditional and representational in nature or it may be more experimental. Entries will be accepted in all visual arts media, including painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, mixed media, digital media, and sculpture. Application fee: $10 per piece, $20 for three. Deadline: Drop off only on Sept. 11 (1-4 PM) and Sept. 12 (5-7 PM).

Craft Artists The Society of Arts and Crafts is now accepting applications for their 2012 Artist Awards. New England artists working in ceramics, fiber, glass, metal, wood, or mixed media may apply. Students and past winners are not eligible. Three winners will be selected, each will receive $3,000 and participate in a group exhibition to be held April – June 2012 in the Society of Arts and Crafts’ Boston gallery.
