Call to Artists The Essex Art Center Salon Show aims to feature work by artists of all ages from the Merrimack Valley and beyond. All mediums are welcome. The show opens on Saturday, July 13, as part of Fiesta en la calle, our annual block party that will include live music, performances, dancing, food, and participatory art activities. We’ll be celebrating the power of art in our region and the Salon Show will remain on display until August. Participating artists will have the opportunity to sell their work, too. Learn more.

Hurricane Prep for Artists 101 Join CERF+ for “Hurricane Prep for Artists 101,” a special webinar designed to equip artists with essential strategies to safeguard themselves and their artistic practices for the 2024 Hurricane Season. The webinar will cover the top five preparedness tips every artist needs to know. June 5, from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM ET. Learn more and register.

July 2024-Paper Trail: Juried Works on Paper Artists are invited to submit works on or of paper, including drawing, painting on paper, folded paper, sculptural paper works, papier mache, watercolor, printmaking, cut paper, artist books, cyanotype, photogravure and other alternative photographic processes in which paper is a key component of the work. Digital archival pigment prints on photo paper will not be accepted. The call encourages artists to submit work that celebrates paper in innovative ways. Submit your best 1-3 works on paper. Artist Residencies Applications are currently being accepted for the Studios at MASS MoCA in North Adams, January-June 2025 residencies with fellowship and financial aid support. Applications are available in both English and Spanish. Learn more.

Fund for Boston Area Artists The Boston Mayor’s Office of Arts & Culture’s Opportunity Fund is offering $3,000 grants to individual creative workers to increase their community impact in Boston by uplifting artists’ publicly accessible creative projects, furthering access to artists’ trainings that will increase their community impact, and bolstering artists’ civic engagement and leadership. Recipients of the Opportunity Fund will be selected through a weighted lottery process, with priority given to performing artists; individuals from low-income backgrounds and/or individuals who are currently experiencing financial insecurity; and creative workers who live in the following neighborhoods: Chinatown, Dorchester, East Boston, Hyde Park, Mattapan, Mission Hill, and Roxbury. Grants for Visual Artists, Curators The Vilcek Foundation will award three Vilcek Prizes for Creative Promise of $50,000 each to young, immigrant visual artists and three Vilcek Prizes for Creative Promise of $50,000 each to young, immigrant curators who demonstrate outstanding early achievement in their field. Call for Winter Market Artist and Artisan Vendors The Umbrella’s Winter Market is an annual three-day show and sale of artist, artisan, and hand-crafted work in Concord, MA. This sale includes juried vendors and resident artists and has a dedicated following built over three decades. This year’s Winter Market will take place Friday, December 6 – Sunday, December 8, 2024, on all three floors of The Umbrella’s beautifully renovated space. Learn more.

Vermont Studio Center Artist Residency The Vermont Studio Center provides residencies in an inclusive, international community, honoring creative work as the communication of spirit through form. VSC invites writers and visual artists from around the world to mentor residents, present readings, facilitate craft talks, and give lectures that are open to the public. Learn more.

Artist Grant Art Fluent’s grant cycle is now open to individual artists. The Evolution Grant will provide unrestricted funding to an individual artist with recognized artistic excellence in fine art media and a demonstrated commitment to their art. $1,000 to one visual artist each grant cycle. Unrestricted funds applied toward any expense to enhance the artist’s ability to create work. Learn more.

Housing Applications for Fitchburg Arts Community Fitchburg Arts Community is accepting applications for affordable housing in Fitchburg, MA. Anyone can apply, but artists will be given a preference in the August 7th housing lottery. Those seeking the artist-preference are encouraged to apply by June 28th because they will need to submit materials for review. Detailed information on the NewVue website. First step in the process is completing the online pre-application.

Symposium on American Art Land, Place, Identity: Inaugural Symposium on American Art is a fully funded opportunity for artists, students, and scholars to spend a weekend in Provincetown presenting research and projects on American art. The symposium seeks to explore themes of land, place, time, identity, community, power, and survival, as well as aesthetics and politics of indigeneity and settlement; examining how these categories span time, shift, and overlap to engulf artists in a geographic area, genre, or cultural narrative. Visiting Artist Scholarship The Nicholas Dahl Visiting Artist Scholarship is offered through the Provincetown Art Association & Museum to an LGBTQIA+ individual who is 30 years or under, passionate about the arts and demonstrates financial need. The scholarship will fund a one-week creative experience in Provincetown, including lodging, a workshop at PAAM, use of a PAAM studio, a PAAM Membership, and the opportunity to visit the Fine Arts Work Center, the National Seashore, and artist and writer studios. Lotte Jacobi Photography Exhibition As we commemorate the 45th year of hosting our esteemed juried photography exhibition, NH Art Association invites New England artists working in photographic mediums to submit 1-3 pieces, continuing our tradition of celebrating this important art form and preserving their organization’s rich history. Southern New England Apprenticeship Program The Connecticut Museum of Culture and History announces its Southern New England Apprenticeship Program (SNEAP) is now open for applications. SNEAP helps communities preserve their cultural knowledge by supporting teaching relationships between a mentor and apprentice. The program provides funding to cross-state apprenticeship teams from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, or Connecticut. The teaching and learning of traditional arts, trades, practices, or crafts helps sustain culture that is important to a community. The apprenticeship amount will be no more than $3500 and no less than $2000. Each year around six to eight mentor/apprentice teams are selected. Learn more.
