Happy International Women’s Day!

Theatre, Playwriting, Dance, and Choreography  Princess Grace Awards are now accepting applications from emerging artists in theatre, playwriting, dance, and choreography. Theatre awards take the form of scholarships, apprenticeships, and fellowships at non-profit schools and theatres. Playwriting award includes a residency at New Dramatists, Inc. and the opportunity for the winning play to be licensed and published by Samuel French, Inc. Dance performance awards take the form of scholarships and fellowships. Choreography awards take the form of fellowships for collaborations with non-profit dance companies. Read more. Filmmakers The 20th Annual Woods Hole Film Festival is accepting feature and short narrative, documentary, comedy, animation, and experimental films for the 2011 festival July 30 – August 6. New media or multimedia projects will also be considered for a special portion of the Festival. Total running time of feature narrative of documentary film must be at least 40 minutes and total running time of a short film must be no more than 40 minutes. Entries must be recent work completed within the previous two calendar years (2009-2011) in order to be considered. Works in progress will be considered for the Festival provided they will be completed no later than July 1, 2011. Learn more.

Call for Artists The Storefront Artist Project invites artists to participate in their juried exhibition O Solo Mama Mia to be held in conjunction with WAM Theatre’s O Solo Mama Mia Festival, a series of solo theatre works written and performed by women. Jurors include Norman Rockwell Museum’s chief curator Stephanie Plunkett and WAM co-founders Kristen van Ginhoven and Leigh Strimbeck. The criteria for selection will include quality, creativity, and adherence to festival themes of female empowerment and celebration of women in general.

Dance The Experimental Media & Performing Arts Center (EMPAC) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY is now accepting proposals for the DANCE MOViES Commission program. Selected artists receive awards ranging up to $40,000, and can also apply to create their works in conjunction with the Artist-in-Residence program at EMPAC. Works commissioned may take advantage of EMPAC’s infrastructure and technology, such as computer-controlled rigging, flexible black-box studios, and post-production engineering for audio and video. Previously commissioned works range from a punk marching band creating mayhem in the streets of Chicago to a poetic film based on the autobiographical account of a US-based African choreographer returning to dance in Zimbabwe. Choreography White Wave is now accepting applications to the 2011 Dumbo Dance Festival in New York. They will showcase approximately 120 emerging and established choreographers and dance companies from across the USA and other countries. Application forms and guidelines now available. Questions: 718-855-8822 or info@whitewavedance.com.
