Mass Cultural Council Announces 37 Awards in Choreography, Fiction/Creative Nonfiction, and Painting

Mass Cultural Council is honored to announce the 2014 Artist Fellowship awards in Choreography, Fiction/Creative Nonfiction, and Painting. Nineteen artists and one collaborative duo will receive fellowships of $10,000, and 17 artists will receive $500 finalist awards. See a list of this year’s fellows and finalists, to date.

The awards are anonymously judged, based solely on the artistic quality and creative ability of the work submitted. Applications were open to all eligible Massachusetts artists. A total number of 1242 applications were received; 52 in Choreography, 599 in Fiction/Creative Nonfiction, and 591 in Painting.

The Choreography panelists were Debra Cash, Adrienne Clancy, Bryn Cohn, and Prashant Shah. The Fiction/Creative Nonfiction panelists were Quang Bao, Deborah Z. Porter, and Lorin Rees; readers were Cara Blue Adams, Sybil Baker, Matt Bell, Sarah Blackman, Kathleen Crowley, Heidi Durrow, Abeer Hoque, Brendan Mathews, Edie Meidav, Mary O’Donoghue, Bill Peters, Allan Reeder, Kirstin Valdez Quade, and Julie Wu. The Painting panelists were Nina Chanel Abney, Randi Hopkins, Sarah Kurz, and Lexi Lee Sullivan.

This is the second series of Artist Fellowships awards to be given by Mass Cultural Council in 2014. In January 2014, Mass Cultural Council announced awards in Drawing, Poetry, and Traditional Arts.
