Dance Groups The 2011 Dance for World Community Festival on June 11, 2011 in Harvard Square, Cambridge is now accepting applications from dance groups. The festival is a full-day, free community event featuring performances by area dance companies, youth troupes, and introductory-level classes representing diverse dance forms. Picture Book Writers/Illustrators The Associates of the Boston Public Library is accepting applications from emerging picture book writers/illustrators for their 2011-2012 Writer-in-Residence Program. The fellowship provides a children’s writer/illustrator with the support needed to complete one literary work, including a $20,000 stipend and office space for nine months within the Boston Public Library’s Central Branch. Playwrites The Pittsburgh New Works Festival is now accepting one-act plays that have never been produced. Selection of plays for the festival will take place in mid-June. Read the guidelines. Contact info@pittsburghnewworks.org.

Filmmakers The 48 Hour Film Project is coming to Boston. In a wild, sleepless weekend, you and a team will make a movie – write, shoot, edit, and score it. From scratch. In 48 hours. On Friday, May 6, you’ll get a character, a prop, a line of dialogue and a genre, all to include in your movie. By Sunday, May 8, the movie must be complete. It will show at Kendall Square Cinema at a screening the following week. Meet other New England filmmakers, spend 48 hours in intense movie making mode, and have your film screened at the Kendall Square Cinema! Call to Artists Boston Handmade is now accepting new members. To be eligible for membership an applicant must reside within Metro Boston (inside of the Rt. 128 loop), create their art or craft work by their own hand, and maintain an active online shop (such as: BigCartel, Artfire, your own e-commerce shop, or Etsy) through which original, handmade items are sold. Read more. They are currently accepting applicants in all media categories.

Clay Artists Mudflat Studio Artist Residency Program offers a one-year residency position to clay artists. Studio space provided as well as access to Mudflat’s facility. Teaching and sales opportunities are also provided. Residency dates are Sept. 1 – Aug. 31. Learn more.
