It’s about creating that joy and wonder in our public spaces, and also reflecting the faces of who we are as Bostonians today.
– Kate Gilbert, Executive Director of Now + There, discussing public art in Boston
The Mass Cultural Council’s Creative Minds Out Loud podcast recently featured Kate Gilbert, executive director of Now + There, an organization that curates, presents, and supports public art in Boston. On the podcast, she discusses the organization’s mission to transform Boston into a public art city.
“We’ll begin to create an identity for Boston in our public art,” she says. “Boston can be: fill in the blank… I like to say it will be littered with public art.”
She also discusses how the Public Art Accelerator Program from Now + There helps artists, through a six-month bootcamp, explore issues like taxes, permitting, budgeting, as well as the creative content of their projects.
