Mass Cultural Council Choreography, Poetry, and Traditional Artist Fellowships The Artist Fellowships are unrestricted awards in recognition of exceptional creative work by Massachusetts artists. This year, Mass Cultural Council is committing over $1 million to the Artist Fellowships, with the goal of doubling the artists funded through the program. The Fellowship grants are $15,000. Finalist awards will increase this year from $1,500 to $5,000. Watch a recording of the recent Information Session about these grants. Local Cultural Council Grants The Local Cultural Council Grants Program has extended the FY22 LCC deadline to November 1, 2021 at 11:59pm(ET). Please note that while the application will close at 11:59pm (ET), the help desk will only be staffed until 6pm that evening. Local Cultural Council Program Grants for community-based arts and culture projects. Led by municipally appointed volunteers, LCCs award over $4 million every year, supporting 6,000 cultural programs that include everything from field trips to lectures, festivals, and dance performances. Playwrights Company One Theatre’s PlayLab Circuit Volt Lab initiative is an incubator of new work for writers of varied experience levels and backgrounds. The Volt Lab provides mentorship opportunities for emerging playwrights to practice and enhance their craft while actively engaging with Company One’s mainstage programming. Learn more.

Call for Boston’s next Youth Poet Laureate Boston residents who are 13-18 years old and passionate about poetry and spoken word are eligible. The selected Youth Poet Laureate will serve under the mentorship of current Poet Laureate Porsha Olayiwola. They will receive a $2,000 honorarium each year, and will also publish their own collection of poetry. The deadline to apply is November 14, 2021 at 5 p.m. Learn more.

Call for BIPOC Curatorial Proposals The New Art Center is looking for curatorial proposals for an exhibition to be included in our BIPOC Series hosted at our gallery: New Art Corridor, a public space with 24 hour access outfitted with security cameras. The gallery has a large flat screen tv to display digital media / virtual galleries, a 36ft wall and an 8ft wall – both equipped with a track system including rods and security hooks for hanging. Upon entry to the Corridor, there is a 6ft wall for wall text pertaining to the exhibition to be displayed. All mediums are welcomed! Curators are offered a $500 curatorial honorarium. Learn more.

Public Artists Professional Development Grants The Public Art Learning Fund provides grants of $500 to $2,000 to support professional development opportunities for New England artists to strengthen their public art practices. Through the Public Art Learning Fund, NEFA intends to foster the continued development of more equitable, inclusive, and vibrant public spaces and public life throughout New England. Learn more.

Request for Proposals: Upham’s Corner Arts and Innovation District The City of Boston has released the first of two Requests for Proposals (RFPs) that advance the implementation of Imagine Boston 2030 and the creation of the Upham’s Corner Arts & Innovation District. Together, the RFPs advance the community’s vision to build a new Upham’s Corner branch of the Boston Public Library (BPL), designate an experienced operator for the Strand Theatre, and create affordable housing and affordable commercial space.
