Short Stories Short Story Award for New Writers. A prize of $1,500 and publication in Glimmer Train Stories is given quarterly for a short story by a writer whose fiction has not been published in a print publication with a circulation over 5,000. Submit a story of 1,200 to 12,000 words. Learn more.

Call to Artists The Cape Cod Maritime Museum is looking for artwork in all mediums for an exhibit The Art of the Catboat opening March 12, 2013. The Museum is seeking catboat sculptures, models, paintings, drawings, pottery and jewelry which will be on display in the rotating exhibit. Multiple pieces will be considered. The Cape Cod Maritime Museum is located at 135 South Street, Hyannis. For more information or to submit pictures of work for consideration call 508-775-1723 or email.

Call for Artists The Annual Juried Art Exhibition was founded by the Monmouth County Arts Council’s annual juried art exhibition is currently accepting entries for an exhibition at the Monmouth Museum. Open to all artists age 17 and over. Artwork will be considered in all media except film/video. Learn more.

Poets The Poetry Society of America‘s Chapbook Fellowships offer publication and prizes of $1000 each, given annually for chapbooks by poets who have not yet published a full-length collection. Thomas Sayers Ellis and Nick Flynn will judge. Submit a manuscript of 20-30 pages, plus $12 fee. Learn more.

Artist Residency Applications for 2013 for artists, writers and the general public are being accepted for the Fowler and C-Scape Dune Shacks in the Cape Cod National Seashore. One week stays are available. If you’re excited about the prospects of roughing it in nature – no electricity, indoor plumbing, or telephone – and its physical isolation allow for uninterrupted solitude and refuge, then hop to it and apply! Photography Iowa Review Award in Photography is currently accepting entries. This year’s judges are Alec Soth, photographer, and Kathleen Edwards, Chief Curator, University of Iowa Museum of Art. The winner will receive $1,500 and be featured in an image essay in the December 2013 issue of The Iowa Review. The runner-up will receive $750. Learn more.
