Rosanna Yamagiwa Alfaro (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’11), Patrick Gabridge (Dramatic Writing Finalist ’17, ’15), and John Kuntz (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’15) are among the playwrights whose audio plays are premiering with Huntington Theatre Company’s Dream Boston project this month.
Steve Almond (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’08), Raul Gonzalez III (Painting Fellow ’16), Whitney Scharer (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’20), Karen Skolfield (Poetry Fellow ’14), Adam Stumacher (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Finalist ’18), and Grace Talusan (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’02) are among the authors participating in this year’s Concord Festival of Authors (online, 10/16-10/31). The events are curated by Lara JK Wilson (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’10).
William Ciccariello (Painting Fellow ’06), Ellen LeBow (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’14), Julie Levesque (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Fellow ’01), Anne Lilly (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Fellow ’19), Joshua Meyer (Painting Fellow ’08), and Janice Redman (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Fellow ’01) are among the artists in the virtual exhibit MAKING WAVES: Artists Speak Out organized by Rice Polak Gallery (10/15-11/3).
Andrea Hairston (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’03), Krysten Hill (Poetry Fellow ’20), Rishi Reddi (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’04), and Grace Talusan (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’02) are participating in the 2020 Boston Book Festival, a series of virtual programs (10/4-10/25). Grace Talusan’s short story “The Book of Life and Death” is the festival’s One City One Story selection.
Marky Kauffmann (Photography Fellow ’17) co-curated the group exhibition Moved To Act! Demonstrations, Marches, Political Actions, which includes work by Edie Bresler (Photography Fellow ’17) and Keiko Hiromi (Photography Finalist ’13). The show, which has images from protest movements from around the country since 2017, will be on display on the walls and online at the Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts (10/15-11/13).

Elizabeth Alexander (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Fellow ’11) is in the group exhibitions Paper Routes: Women to Watch 2020 at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington DC (10/8-1/18/21); DRAWN: Concept & Craft at the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art in Winston-Salem, NC (thru 2/15); and #stillcontemporary A group exhibition celebrating 40 years at Hodges Taylor Contemporary Gallery + Consulting Firm in Charlotte, NC.
Denise Bergman (Poetry Finalist ’14) will publish a new poetry book, The Shape of the Keyhole, in November. It’s available for pre-order from Black Lawrence Press.
Lillian-Yvonne Bertram‘s (Poetry Fellow ’20) poetry collection Travesty Generator was longlisted for a 2020 National Book Award for Poetry.
Ria Brodell (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’14) discusses her Butch Heroes series in the Zoom talk Channeling, with artists describing how they channel history in their art (10/29, 6 PM), hosted by Tufts University Art Galleries.
Jay Critchley (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Finalist ’91) has an art installation, The Whiteness House: tarred and feathered on view at Bubala’s by the Bay Restaurant in Provincetown (10/16-10/25).
Sean Downey (Painting Fellow ’14) is exhibiting in a three-person exhibition at LaMontagne Gallery (thru 10/20).
Rosalyn Driscoll (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Fellow ’13) created the new book The Sensing Body in the Visual Arts: Making and Experiencing Sculpture, published by Bloomsbury, about how somatic senses impact the experience of visual art.
Beth Galston (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Fellow ’13) has a retrospective exhibition of models from her public art projects, called Built and Imagined, at the Gleason Public Library in Carlisle, now open by appointment (thru 12/5).
Ralf Yusuf Gawlick‘s (Music Composition Fellow ’15, ’09) composition Herzliche Grüße Bruno ~ Briefe aus Stalingrad (Best regards, Bruno ~ Letters from Stalingrad) recently won 3rd place in the American Prize: Vocal Chamber Music.
Raul Gonzalez III (Painting Fellow ’16) is part of a virtual exhibition from the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, Now and Then: Contemporary Illustrators and their Childhood Art.
Basia Goszczynska‘s (Film & Video Fellow ’13) Rainbow Cave installation is on view at Hopscotch, an immersive art space in San Antonio, Texas. The installation features a soundscape by Fireberg and will be on view for an entire year.
Kirun Kapur (Poetry Finalist ’18) has published a new poetry collection, Women in the Waiting Room (Black Lawrence Press) and she will read and discuss the book with Erica Wagner at an online launch event (10/25, 2 PM).
Marjorie Kaye (Painting Finalist ’18) has a pop-up installation and exhibition, Back to the Garden: Memories and Dreams with Annee Spileos Scott at 460C Harrison Avenue #C8B in Boston (10/17-11/7, First Friday Reception 11/6, 6-8 PM. Exhibition open Saturdays and Sundays 12-4 PM or by appointment).
Anindita Lal (Traditional Arts Apprentice ’17), who apprenticed with master artist Sunanda Sahay, received a First-Year Innovation Fellowship from Boston University to develop ways to create and teach Madhubani art.
Stefan Lanfer‘s (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’15) play An Education in Prudence was featured in the New Play Alliance Newsletter.
Frannie Lindsay (Poetry Fellow ’06) has a virtual book launch for her new collection The Snow’s Wife (10/8, email CavanKerry Press to receive Zoom link).
Scott Listfield (Painting Finalist ’10) has a solo exhibition, Quarantine, at Spoke Gallery in NYC. He recently designed a jigsaw puzzle for the online company Fred.
Melinda Lopez‘s (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’03, ’19) one-woman show Mala will be broadcast on GBH 2 (10/8, 10 PM) as part of National Hispanic Heritage Month.
Rania Matar (Photography Fellow ’11, ’07) has a forthcoming book, Rania Matar: SHE, published by Radius Books. She is exhibiting in Just Kids at the Minneapolis Institute of Art (thru 12/13); Breaking the Frame: Women Artists in the Harn Collections at the Harn Museum of Art, Gainesville, FL (thru 5/2/21); and online in the Robert Klein Gallery’s Viewing Room.
Sandra Matthews‘ (Photography Finalist ’17) new photobook Present Moments has just been published. It combines portraits made over a 40-year period with texts by Massachusetts-based authors Ruth Ozeki and Polina Barskova. Currently, the book is available online as well as at the Broadside Bookshop in Northampton and the Jabberwocky Bookshop in Newburyport.
Adam Mazo‘s (Film & Video Finalist ’17) films with Ben Pender Cudlip, Dawnland and Dear Georgina, have online screenings this month: Dear Georgina is part of a program of short films in the Roxbury Film Festival (10/1, 5:30 PM). Both films screen in an event co-sponsored by the Boston Athenaeum in honor of Indigenous People’s Day (10/12, 8 PM), with a live q&a.
Wilhelm Neusser (Painting Finalist ’20) has a solo exhibition, The Sixth Season, at Abigail Ogilvy Gallery in Boston (10/14-12/13).
Rachel Perry (Photography Fellow ’17, Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Fellow ’09, Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’04) is exhibiting in the group exhibition Women Take the Floor at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston (thru 5/3/21) and Never Done: 100 Years of Women in Politics and Beyond at Skidmore University’s Tang Teaching Museum (thru 6/6/21). She will create a real-time installation as part of the performance In Your Mouth, a theatrical song cycle composed by Ted Hearne with poetry by Dorothea Lasky, to be performed at Carnegie Hall (10/22). Kelly Popoff (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’20) has a solo exhibition at Pulp Gallery in Holyoke (10/17-11/8, opening reception 10/17, 11 AM-5 PM).
Monica Raymond (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’13) read some pandemic-related poetry at a workshare for former MacDowell Colony Fellows, in September. Her autobiographical monologue Tales of My Uncle (performed 2018 New Masculinities Festival, NYC) will be in the forthcoming McFarland anthology of plays about disability, At the Intersection of Disability and Drama, editor John Sefel.
Judy Riola (Painting Finalist ’02) is exhibiting mixed media paintings at Michele Mercaldo Jewelry in Boston (thru 11/23).
Lynda Schlosberg (Painting Fellow ’20) has a solo exhibition, Never Forgotten, at Kingston Gallery (thru 11/1).
Dawn Southworth (Painting Fellow ’90, ’82) is a Competition Winner featured in Issue 146 of New American Paintings.
David Valdes‘ (Dramatic Writing Finalist ’19) play Downtown Crossing will have a Zoom performance with Company One Theatre (10/22-10/25). Read about the play in a preview on WBUR’s The ARTery.
Lara JK Wilson (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’10) wrote a personal essay for WBUR’s Cognoscenti.
Michael Zelehoski (Painting Fellow ’10) has two solo exhibitions, All of This and Nothing at Art Museum of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Art in Guangdong, China (thru 10/8) and Michael Zelehoski at Bernay Fine Art in Great Barrington.
Evan Ziporyn (Music Composition Fellow ’13) is one of collaborators on Arachnodrone, a multimedia co-creation based on the South American Cyrtophora citricola spider.
