Cross-Sector: Legal Basics For Artists Creative Capitol is offering Legal Basics for Artists, an introduction to essential legal concepts for creative practice, including who owns artwork created across different working relationships—such as partnerships and collectives, employment and independent contracting, and collaborations with presenting organizations. The course also explores when to form a legal entity and provides practical tools to help artists assess copyright ownership, evaluate creative collaborations, and prepare for an initial meeting with a lawyer. Call to Artists The City of Newton invites artists to participate in Artful Pianos, a public art initiative transforming pianos into vibrant, functional art pieces. Selected artists will paint a piano, which will then be placed in a park or open space for the community to enjoy throughout the summer. Call to Artists Cultural Center of Cape Cod is accepting entries for Curiously Gorey, an exhibition inspired by the eccentric charm and dark whimsy of Edward Gorey. This exhibition calls for interpretation rather than imitation and asks artists to explore Gorey’s elegant melancholy and dry theatricality. Artists may draw inspiration from his precision of line, his stage-like compositions, or his unsettling narratives that linger between humor and discomfort. Art Museum-based Health Professions Education Fellowship Applications are currently being accepted for the Harvard Macy Institute’s Art Museum-based Health Professions Education Fellowship. The Fellowship prepares participants to be educators and leaders in the field of art-museum based health professions education. A cornerstone of the Fellowship is the development of a museum-based health professions educational project. The Fellowship includes two 3-day immersive experiences in Boston area art museums. New England Playwrights Entries for the Clauder Competition for New England Writers is open. Every writer who submits a play has that play read and reviewed by at least two readers, and every writer receives a letter from Portland Stage with constructive feedback. Call to Artists The Massachusetts Environmental Trust (MET) has announced a call for art to Massachusetts artists for North Atlantic Right Whale Conservation artwork to be featured at the Trust’s Massachusetts Right Whale Day Celebration on Friday, April 24, 2026 at the New England Aquarium. Artwork must depict anatomically accurate North Atlantic right whale physical characteristics. Selected artwork will be featured in MET’s charitable online auction to benefit the Marine Mammal Conservation Program. Artists can select a 50/50 split or 100% contribution. No fee to apply. Call to Artists, Performers The Democracy Cycle is designed to support new live performance works that explore themes relating to the nature, practice, and experience of democracy, especially democracy as it is practiced in the United States. Artists currently creating in theater, dance, music, opera, and multidisciplinary practices are encouraged to apply. Each selected artist or group of collaborators will receive $60,000 in support, consisting of a $30,000 commission and another $30,000 towards each commissioned project’s development process.
