African American Literary Awards The Black Caucus of the American Library Association’s Literary Awards offers four prizes of $500 each for a poetry collection, a first novel, a book of fiction, and a book of nonfiction (including creative nonfiction) by an African American writer and published in the United States during the current year. The awards honor books that depict the “cultural, historical, and sociopolitical aspects of the Black Diaspora.” Publishers may nominate books published in 2012. Questions, email Gladys Smiley Bell. Letterpress Poetry Chapbook Competition The Center for Book Arts offers a prize of $500 and letterpress publication for a poetry chapbook. The winner also receives $500 for giving a reading at the Center for Book Arts in New York City and a one-week residency at the Winter Shakers Program at the Millay Colony for the Arts in Austerlitz, New York. Sharon Dolin and Harryette Mullen will judge. Learn more.

Instagram Pop Up Show The Cambridge Art Association is currently accepting entries from any New England residents with Instagram. Only one Instagram may be entered per artist. The entry fee is $10 for any entrant. Learn more.

Call for Entries The Nave Gallery in Somerville, MA, seeks entries from visual artists working in all 2-D and 3-D media (including video and installation) for their upcoming exhibition Delicious Torment, an examination of emotional and physical attraction. Learn more.

Exhibition Opportunity The Maud Morgan Arts in Cambridge, MA,  is currently accepting exhibition proposals for their Chandler Gallery. Learn more.
Deadline: January 15, 2013

Choral Compositions The Boston Choral Ensemble is soliciting manuscripts for unaccompanied choral works under 10 minutes in length for their commission competition. The texts may be sacred or secular and in any language. Composers may submit up to three different works. The winner will receive a prize of $1,500. Questions, email the competition coordinator.
