Theater and Dance Proposals Outside the Box is extending their local open call deadline for theater and dance proposals including a piece already in your repertoire or a new performance you’d like to premiere. Seeking pieces which can be performed outside on the grass or on a simple raised platform. These are designed to be pop-up pieces to envelop the audience in a festival atmosphere between the venues. Poems, Short Stories Black Lawrence Press will award The Hudson Prize for an unpublished collection of poems or short stories. The prize is open to new, emerging, and established writers. New England Filmmakers Art New England magazine is accepting submissions for Frame to Fame II, chronicling regional independent filmmakers as they navigate the film festival circuit. Art New England will follow filmmakers throughout their process beginning with submitting their work (completed in 2015 or 2016) to various independent film festivals. It will then report on the filmmakers’ experiences as they attend festivals over the course of the 2016–2017 season. Art New England’s film critic Ethan Gilsdorf will conduct interviews with each participant, to be included in a serialized feature over the course of three to four issues of Art New England in print and online. Request for Proposals The Dance Complex is hosting its second FESTIVAL OF US, YOU, WE, & THEM (June 24 – 26, 2016) and is looking for submissions of art to be shared, shown off and experienced. This combination open house, faculty & choreographers’ showcase, arts gallery and celebration, is a 3-day festival emphasizing the inclusive, humanizing nature of dance and the arts, and will take place within The Dance Complex historic building and outside on its sidewalk dance patio. Examples of submissions could include but are not limited to: theater, music or dance performances of all kinds (pop-up or formal) poetry reading, open rehearsal to share your creative process, open dance class, art-making demonstrations of all kinds, installations, film, facilitated dance/art dialogue. Craft Mentor Program The Society of Arts and Crafts’ Mentor Program prepares emerging artists for participation in premiere craft shows via CraftBoston Holiday – a juried show of 175 exhibitors selling fine craft at Boston’s Hynes Convention Center. Three to four artists will be selected to participate in the Mentor Program. These artists will attend a series of training meetings, working with each other, artist mentors, and show management to design a shared, subsided booth at CraftBoston Holiday. Learn more.

Artist Residency Bright Door offers a ten-day residency in the Lowcountry of Beaufort, SC, one of the many Sea Islands along the South Carolina coastline, this five-room 1,000 sq. ft. cottage in a racially diverse neighborhood is set within a residential community known as Pigeon Point Founded with the purpose of encouraging the development of creative ideas and projects, the residency allows for private use of the cottage and is geared towards those with the maturity and desire to explore the community and the environment independently. The ten days are intended for retreat, research, and the drafting of creative projects. Artists and researchers particularly interested in environmental studies, plein air painting, landscape art, drawing, composing, writing, research of Gullah culture, The Civil War, Slavery, Reconstruction are great fits for this residency, as are leaders in all fields looking for inspiration in their work. Call for Artists and Makers Somerville’s 2016 Makeathon happening May 8 in Union Square will be hosted by Creative Living Works at Washington Street gallery in Union during ArtWeek Boston. Similar to the hackathon concept, artists, crafters, photographers, performers, designers + creatives of any discipline are invited to register. Teams of 2-5 members will have four hours to collaborate on making a work of art that combines each of their skills and relates to the theme (a surprise until day of). Call for Artists The Boston Children’s Hospital, a Harvard University institution, has released a new Request for Qualifications for three new Environmental / Experiential Graphics opportunities in Boston and Waltham, Massachusetts: a new wayfinding system; donor recognition plaques and walls; elevator lobby art – experiential graphics. The RFQ is a coordinated effort with Boston Children’s wayfinding, donor recognition, and art planning teams. They are seeking design teams, artists, etc. for three distinct opportunities within the planned expansion. Open to experienced creative firms, environmental designers, public artists, graphics & media professionals residing in the United States. Creative use of materials, incorporation of technology, especially interactive elements a plus. Previous work in healthcare is desired.

Exhibition Proposals ArtsWorcester is inviting artists to submit proposals for solo and group exhibitions for their 2016-2017 gallery season and corporate art program. Also seeking performance art for their galleries. Proposals are evaluated first by a panel of art experts, and then by an ad hoc committee. As part of this year’s call for exhibits, they seek submissions specific to the Present Tense Prize, awarded to an artist whose work exemplifies new practices, artistic risk-taking, and excellence in execution. The Present Tense Prize winner will receive an award of $1,000 and a solo exhibit on one floor of the Aurora Gallery, and will give an artist talk. Learn more.

Call for Art Entries are now being accepted for the ArtWorcester members exhibition Terra Firma. They seek artwork that engages with the natural environment. While traditional approaches to landscape are welcome, they encourage works that move beyond notions of idealized landscape and the pastoral. This exhibition will take place on the lower level of the Aurora Gallery (Camilo Ramirez’s solo exhibit of photographs, The Gulf, will run simultaneously on the upper level). N.B.
