Emerging Artists in Boston The Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture in Boston is accepting applications for the annual Fay Chandler EMERGING Art Exhibition.Artists that live, work or create in the City of Boston are encouraged to submit their work for consideration. Learn more.

Painters Site:Brooklyn is accepting entries for their international juries art exhibition, Painting in the 21st Century (September 21, 2018 – October 21, 2018). This is an open call to artists. This exhibition will reflect the ambitious, innovative and contemporary in painting today. The juror is Steven Henry Madoff, an art critic, curator, educator, and poet. He served as executive editor of ARTnews magazine from 1987–1994 and is a contributing editor at Modern Painters and ARTnews. Learn more.

Writers A prize of $1,000 and publication by Red Hen Press will be given annually for a novella. Kate Gale will judge. Using the online submission system, submit a manuscript of 15,000 to 30,000 words. Learn more.

Experimental Fiction Entries are currently being accepted by the Journal of Experimental Fiction for their 2019 Kenneth Patchen Award which includes a prize of $1,000 and publication by Journal of Experimental Fiction/Depth Charge Publishing for an innovative novel. The judge is Jane L. Carman. Learn more.

Public Art The Codman Square Neighborhood Council (CSNC) and the Friends of Codman Square Park have issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for an artist to design public art in Codman Square Park. Preference will be given to local and regional applications. Artists and designers of diverse backgrounds with knowledge of African-American culture and history are encouraged to apply. Learn more.

Mural Project Local artists are invited to submit concepts for a mural on the wall along the Town of Middleborough’s Annex Building in Kramer Park. The selected artist will receive $2,000 at the start of project with progressive stipends totaling $2,000 for a total project award of $4,000 when completed. Finished size – Approximately 12′ x 30.’ Medium – Paint (should be weather resistant). Selection Criteria – artistic merit, appropriateness and originality. Learn more.

Playwrights The Yale Drama Series is seeking submissions for its 2019 playwriting competition. The winning play will be selected by the series’ current judge, Ayad Akhtar. The winner of this annual competition will be awarded the David Charles Horn Prize of $10,000, publication of his/her manuscript by Yale University Press, and a staged reading at Lincoln Center’s Claire Tow Theater. The prize and publication are contingent on the playwright’s agreeing to the terms of the publishing agreement. Learn more.

Video, Photography The Farhang Foundation in collaboration with local museums and galleries, presents FOCUS IRAN: Contemporary Photography and Video, a biennial juried exhibition of contemporary photography and video works relating to Iranian culture or heritage. Learn more. The theme of the exhibition is youth culture in Iran or in the Iranian diaspora. Approximately 40 works will be selected to be exhibited at the Craft & Folk Art Museum in Los Angeles. The top three selections will receive $3,000, $2,000 or $1,000 and a print advertisement in ArtForum. Learn more.

Call to Artists Artists and photographers are invited to submit original artwork for acceptance into a new regional juried arts festival, the Small Stones Festival of the Arts, a collaboration of Apple Tree Arts, the Worcester County Camera Club, and the Blackstone Valley Arts Association.. Categories include Fine Arts Photography and Fine Art Painting & Drawing. Prizes in each category include First: $500; Second: $250; and Third: $100. Six distinguished jurors will select prizewinners among the accepted entries. Learn more.

Craft Artist The Greater Denton Arts Council in Denton, TX, is accepting entries for their 32nd annual Materials Hard + Soft International Contemporary Craft Competition and Exhibition. The call is open to craft artists who have created works in the past 2 years (2016-2018) in the following media: clay, fiber, glass, metal, paper, wood, or any combination of craft media. This year’s juror is Janet McCall of Contemporary Craft in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She will select about 70 pieces for the exhibition. Juror awards will be given out in the following amounts: $1,000, $750, $500, and $250. Learn more.
