Grants for Visual, Performing Artists In partnership with the Barr Foundation, The Boston Foundation is pleased to announce the return of Live Arts Boston (LAB), with more than $1 million in grants and professional support available for performing and visual artists, creators, and cultural practitioners in the Boston area, and a particular commitment to highlight and uplift BIPOC and immigrant artists. LAB will support a diverse cohort of 30 artists and creators at different points in their careers with individual grants of $30,000 to nurture their creative practice and artistry and, for some grantees, to also present new and/or existing work. Mosaic Murals Cambridge Arts is looking for artists to design mosaic-murals for the Fire Department Headquarters, which is being renovated, and a new Tobin Montessori and Vassal Lane Upper Schools Complex. Four artists will be selected to collaborate with a custom mosaic fabricator to turn their designs into custom mosaic-murals. One artist will design two mosaic-murals for the Fire Department Headquarters, and three artists will design three mosaic-murals for the Tobin Montessori and Vassal Lane Upper Schools complex. Each artist will be paid approximately $40,000. Learn more.

Call to Artists The Piano Craft Gallery in Boston is accepting entries of up to three pieces of artwork fitting this general concept of ” The Alchemy of Art and Play.” Exhibition Dates: Friday, January 26 – Sunday, February 11, 2024. This exhibition illuminates the dynamic interplay between art and play, showcasing how artists leverage experimentation with various mediums and a playful mindset to transform those materials into captivating and thought-provoking masterpieces. Jurors are Sage Brousseau and Laura Petrovich-Cheney. Learn more.

Zea Mays Printmaking Residency Fellowship Zea Mays Printmaking is offering a subsidized fellowship for a 2-week residency (August 5-18, 2024) in our printmaking studio to one practicing printmaker or a pair of 2 collaborative printmakers. We are looking for artists with experience in printmaking and a vision of a project to begin or continue at Zea Mays Printmaking in etching, photopolymer, screen printing, monotype, relief, letterpress, paper or polyester plate lithography or any combination of these media. In addition, the Residency Fellowship includes four hours of private tutorial time with studio director Liz Chalfin. This time can be used to learn a new technique or a new approach to a familiar one, to discuss setting up a green print studio, or to get feedback on work in progress. Learn more.

Arts Teachers Survey Tell DESE how they can help schools and districts implement the 2019 Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Framework. An anonymous online survey is open until December 31, 2023. If you are an arts teacher (including dance, media, music, theatre and visual arts), school or district based arts lead, or administrator who supports arts instruction, please share your thoughts. The survey is administered by an independent research organization. It takes about 15 minutes to complete, and DESE will use the responses to improve support for teaching and learning in the arts. DESE will share a summary of survey results in summer 2024. If you have any questions about the survey, please contact Amanda Trainor of RMC Research at atrainor@rmcres.com.

Call to Artists Gallery 263 is accepting entries to the exhibition “Face”. Figurative artwork reveals an expressive perspective of celebrating the world through observation and interpreting details of everyday lives. The longstanding tradition of portraiture is a testament to its ability to depict not only the exact likeness of a person or scene but also to reflect the inner sentiments of the maker. Gallery 263 invites artists based in the United States to submit to Face, a juried exhibition that challenges the tradition and explores the potential of portraiture. Learn more.

Call for Boston Area Performers Applications are currently being accepted from performers for the HELLABLACK LIVE MIXTAPE VOL. 6. We’re looking for rising artists from the Black, African, African American, Afro Caribbean, and Afro Latine diaspora to be a part of #HellaBlack Live MixTape Vol. 6, curated by Amanda Shea. Call for Muralist The Milford Cultural Council is seeking artists to submit designs for a mural to be included on the 32’ wide multipurpose training wall of a Fitness Court to be installed in Milford Town Park. Fine Arts Work Center 2024-2025 Visual Arts Fellowship Ten annual fellowships will be awarded to visual artists for a seven-month residency that runs from October 1 – April 30. Fellows are provided with a private furnished apartment, a work studio, a $1250 monthly stipend plus a $1000 exit stipend to support relocation at the end of the Fellowship. Learn more.
