Short Stories A prize of $1,500 and publication in Glimmer Train Stories is given quarterly to a writer whose fiction has not appeared, nor is scheduled to appear, in any print publication with a circulation over 5,000. Learn more

Sports Fiction & Essays Two prizes of $1,000 each and publication on the Winning Writers website are given annually for a story and an essay on the theme of sports. Jendi Reiter will judge. Submit up to 6,000 words of prose with a $15 entry fee. Email with questions.  Learn more.

Filmmakers LEF Foundation’s Moving Image Fund, which supports filmmakers living in the New England region, has an upcoming grant deadline. The fund will award up to $5,000 to selected nonfiction film projects in the Pre-production stage. Learn more.

Writers and Artist Residencies The Vermont Studio Center is accepting applications for 28 fellowships for artists and writers–including the new Grace Paley Fiction Fellowship. Learn more.

Video Artists The Helen Day Art Center in Stow, VT, is now accepting video submissions for their Magic Lantern Art & Short Film Festival which will  occur in the fall 2013. They are interested in work that demonstrates artistic practice as well as theoretical interest. Guidelines & Restrictions: Family friendly content (films will be screened outdoors and accessible to hundreds of passersby). Length of video should not exceed 5 minutes and audio-less pieces only. Photography Fellowships En Foco’s New Works Photography Fellowship Awards is an annual program selecting several U.S. based photographers of Latino, African or Asian heritage, and Native Peoples of the Americas and Pacific, through a free, national call for entries. Learn more.

Call for Artists The Nave Gallery is accepting entries for You Are Here: Maps and Art, an exhibition curated by Vanessa Marcoux and Sandy McDonald. This exhibition will examine the role and use of maps in art, both as a subject and as a medium. Open to artists in all media including installation and video. Artists are encouraged to explore from the literal to the conceptual meaning of maps. Artwork can incorporate the geographic, social, scientific, real, and imagined use of maps. 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional works will be accepted. Learn more.

Visual Artist Grants The Berkshire Taconic Foundation is currently accepting grant applications from artists working in painting, sculpture, printmaking, or mixed media to mid-career artists with financial need in New England and Columbia and Northeast Dutchess counties, NY. Non-profit organizations wishing to show, commission, or purchase work by mature artists living in New England may also apply. Grants range from $2,000 to $10,000. Learn more.
