Request for Proposals for the Worcester Catch Basin Murals The Catch Basin Mural Project is a public art initiative designed to raise awareness about the impact of pollution on Worcester’s waterways. Catch basins, which serve as drainage points for city streets, are a direct link between our neighborhoods and local bodies of water, including lakes, ponds, and rivers. However, these basins are often mistaken for trash receptacles, leading to harmful waste—such as litter, chemicals, and pet waste—being washed into our water systems. Through this project, artists will transform select catch basins into vibrant murals that visually communicate the importance of clean water and responsible waste disposal. By using art as a tool for education and advocacy, we aim to encourage the community to protect Worcester’s waterways, reduce pollution, and foster a deeper connection to our local environment. The artist stipend for this project is $600. Learn more.
