Quiltmakers The Firelands Association for the Arts in Oberlin, OH, is currently accepting entries for their exhibition, The Artist as Quiltmaker XVIII. FAVA deliberately chooses not to define ‘quilt,’thereby encouraging both established and emerging artists to submit innovative artwork, pushing boundaries and challenging expectations, whether they use traditional or non-traditional techniques or materials. The juror is Emily Zilber, Ronald C. and Anita L. Wornick Curator of Contemporary Decorative Arts, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Learn more.

Call to Artists Fe Gallery in Sacramento, CA, is currently accepting entries for their exhibition Scientific Illustration. It was Albert Einstein who said you cannot understand something until you can picture it and art has been the standard bearer of this truth since humans first left images painted upon cave walls. The act of documenting our investigations and findings as image has been intrinsically tied to study long before we ever called it science, from mapping the movements of the sun to meticulously detailed copies of herbs and flowers, we have always used image as a carrier of insight, as a map how we understand our world, to explain what we see, and to see what we cannot. Commemorative Monument The Art in Public Places Program of the Hawai‘i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts (SFCA), is requesting qualifications from individual artists for artwork to be commissioned for a monument to commemorate the Filipino veterans of World War II who fought alongside the Allied forces. Touring Grants for Performing Artists NEST (New England States Touring) funds presentations of New England-based performing artists from outside of a presenter’s state. Call to Artists Gallery 263 in Cambridge, MA, is currently seeking submission to Sanctuary, a national juried exhibition to be selected by guest juror, Maria Molteni. Sanctuary will showcase work that explores, depicts, criticizes, or creates safe havens and sacred spaces. All media are accepted. Learn more.

Fellowship for Study/Painting in Europe The Donald and Kim Jurney Traveling Fellowship will award $5,000 to an emerging or mid-career artist working in a “traditional representational manner,” for painting or study in Europe. Travel must be completed between April and October 2018. The Newburyport Art Association is administering the opportunity. Learn more.

Photographers Sohn Fine Art Gallery in Lenox, MA is currently accepting photography submissions for their 7th Annual Juried Photography Exhibition. The Exhibition will feature a curated selection of 4 photographs by 5 artists, with a total of 20 photographs in the show. Any genre of photography can be submitted and all photographic mediums are eligible for submission. This exhibition will be curated and judged by Susan Wissler (Executive Director of The Mount, Edith Wharton’s Home); Ann Jon (Executive Director of SculptureNow); Wayne Alpern (Trustee of the Alpern Foundation); Jonas Dovydenas (Photographer) All 5 artists accepted into the show will win cash prizes. Residency Opportunity for Artists in Puerto Rico Affected by Hurricane Maria The Studios at MASS MoCA invites artists in Puerto Rico who have been affected by Hurricane Maria, including artists displaced from the island by the hurricane, to apply for residencies up to 6 weeks. The normal residency fee will be waived, and additional support will be provided for travel and meals. No application fee. Learn more.

Public Art Proposal The City of Boston, as part of a new Percent for Art program, invites artists to submit responses to this Request for Proposals for a public art project to complement 2017/2018 renovations to the Vine Street BCYF center. Proposals should be submitted as written concepts; no design work is requested until the artist is selected. Open to all professional artists, artisans, architects, landscape architects, or design teams (hereinafter referred to as “the Artist”), with experience in public art, site responsive design, project management, and construction administration. Professionals from the Roxbury neighborhood are particularly encouraged to apply. Budget: $150,000. Learn more.

MASS MoCA Artist Residencies The Studios at MASS MoCA have hosted over 300 artists- and writers-in-residence for self-directed 1- to 8-week residencies. Applications are currently open for residency sessions between April and September 2018. Learn more.

Call to Artists Entries are being accepted for the national exhibition Red, White + Blue, juried by Camilo Alvarez, Owner, Director and Preparator at Samsøñ (formerly Samson Projects). The Brookline Arts Center invites artists of all media residing in the United States to submit work that explores the complexity of Red, White + Blue. From the charming to the challenging, they are looking for work that expresses nostalgia, national identity, political commentary and diverse interpretations of pride. All media welcome. Learn more.

Call to Artists Registration for the 2018 West Medford Open Studios is now open. Started in 2000, West Medford Open Studios (WMOS) is an annual two-day arts festival located in West Medford, MA. Participating artists include painters, photographers, sculptors, writers, jewelers, and musicians. Free events include food tastings, pottery throwing demonstrations, readings, and live music performances. The 2018 West Medford Open Studios will take place on Saturday, April 28 and Sunday, April 29. Learn more.
