Writers Residency Fellowships The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown is currently accepting applications for their Writing Fellowships which offer a seven-month residency. Awards are given annually to four poets and four fiction writers who have not published a full-length book in any genre. Each fellowship includes a private apartment and a monthly stipend of $750. Women Nonfiction Writers Vela’s Second Nonfiction Contest, which will be judged by Claire Vaye Watkins. Contest opens September 15, 2016 and, after a recently announced deadline extension, will close December 1 (11:59 PM PST). Winner will receive $1000 and publication. They’re looking for creative nonfiction, written by women, with a strong voice, a compelling narrative, and/or a powerful driving question. Interested in a wide range of essays, including literary journalism, personal essays, memoir, and experimental essays. Learn more.

Poetry and Prose Translation Fellowships National Endowment for the Arts is offering grants of $12,500 and $25,000 each are given annually to translators of poetry and prose from any language into English. Applicants must have published, alone or in collaboration, at least 20 pages of translation in digital or print literary publications or in book form between December 1, 2001, and December 6, 2016. Learn more.

Call for Art Entries are now being accepted for the Winter Art Show, January 2017, for the Armory Cafe in Somerville. No fee. Any technique and medium is welcome (photography, painting, charcoal, mixed media, sculpture, watercolor, drawing, etc). However, submitted pieces must be able to hang from the wall in a reasonably sized area, i.e. no free standing sculpture, no grand scale pieces which cover an entire wall. Learn more.

Call for Community Artist The Artist Project is a collaboration between the MFA and 10 after school community organizations in Boston. Each year a new experienced artist with a passion for community arts is selected to plan and lead a project with children between the ages of six and twelve. The artist guides children and helps them create a collaborative work. A stipend of $22,000 and a materials budget is provided. No Entry Fee. Public Art Boston’s Mayor Martin J. Walsh, with the Department of Public Works, the Boston Art Commission, and the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture, invite artists to submit proposals for a public art project in North Square. The City of Boston’s Public Works Department has allocated $200,000 from the North Square reconstruction project budget towards a public art project that will be incorporated into the reconstruction of the Square. Outdoor Sculpture The Newton Festival of the Arts announces its first Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition. Sculpture will be installed on the grounds of Newton City Hall, 1000 Commonwealth Avenue, Newton, MA. The Festival is seeking proposals for new or existing works. Any sculptural medium is allowed, provided it can be safely installed and will require no maintenance throughout the duration of the Exhibition. All object-based sculptures must be securely mounted to the ground. Artists at any stage of their career are encouraged to apply. Joint applications are accepted. This is an open Call and is not limited to Newton sculptors. Learn more.

Photographers The Center for Fine Art Photography is currently accepting entries for their upcoming juried exhibition Landscapes 2017. All artist renditions on the landscapes theme, genres, capture types and photographic processes are eligible for selection. Learn more.

Call to Artists The Brookline Arts Center invites artists who reside in the United States to submit work for their exhibit Up/Rooted (March 17-April 21, 2017), juried by María Magdalena Campos-Pons. Artists are invited to submit work that explores origin, displacement and the influence of the past on the future. How do we connect with where we come from if we are no longer there? How does our sense of place relate to our culture and identity? We are looking for work that raises questions and draws influence from heritage, culture and familial traditions, and explores how we come to terms with being up/rooted. All media welcome. Entry fee is $30 for 1-3 submissions, $45 for 4-6. Learn more.
