Call for Art Vendors On Saturday, July 13, 2024, Essex Art Center in Lawrence is hosting its 4th annual Fiesta en la calle, a free block party featuring live music, dancing, performances, art activities and a community exhibition. Writers Residency Mountain Writers Intensive in Banff, Alberta. The Mountain Writers Intensive is a three-week residency for nine writers working in any genre (fiction, nonfiction, journalism, or poetry) on mountain narratives, environmental journalism, stories of adventure, or projects with a theme of the human relationship to landscape. Muralist The Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) and the Town of Holliston invite artists to apply for an exciting public art opportunity. Artists are invited to submit their qualifications and preliminary concepts for mural artwork at three prominent sites where they will enhance connections between the Holliston Rail Trail and the downtown area: i) The doors of the Blair Square Pavilion (Rail Trail at intersection with Central Street) ii) The electric box at the intersection of Washington and Hollis Streets iii) The electric box at the intersection of Washington and Green Streets. We seek one artist or team to design and install murals at all three sites. Teams may also include additional artistic elements that hang from the rafters of the Blair Square pavilion in their proposals. The selected artist/artist team will receive $10,000 to bring their vision to life. Applications are due July 19, 2024, and artwork should be installed by August 20th, 2024. Learn more.

National Dance Presenters’ Forum Arts workers are invited to participate via Zoom in two National Dance Presenters’ Forum public sessions: Just Presenting, Thursday, July 25, 2:00 – 3:30 PM ET | Register by July 19, 2024. Justice, equity, inclusion, and accessibility are foundational aspects of any and all work in the dance sector and should foreground what we do, how we do it, and where we are going. This session will focus on unpacking the characteristics of “just” presenting and the role presenters have in advancing a more equitable and just future in dance. Participants will have the opportunity to hear from BIPOC, disabled, LGBTQIA+, and immigrant artists and their partnering presenters about what makes “just” presenting partnerships possible. Guiding questions include: How do we define justice, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in presenting? What does it look and feel like in practice? Learn more and register. This session will consider the role of presenters within the larger dance ecosystem in the United States. How should these interlocutors work together and what role do they play in supporting artists and local communities? How can collaboration across roles advance the dance ecology today? Call for Composers Lowell National Historical Park (NHP) in partnership with Mosaic Lowell, funded by a grant from the National Park Foundation through generous support from the Mellon Foundation, is thrilled to announce a call for original musical compositions for The Measure of Work: Sounds of Labor in Lowell, a collection of musical pieces that tell the story of labor across Lowell’s long history. We are looking for multiple composers to contribute to this project. Compositions will be recorded and made publicly available through the National Park Service website and mobile app as well as listening stations installed in the Boott Mills Museum as part of the exhibits. A limited pressing of vinyl records will be sold in the Lowell NHP gift shop. The project may also include future paid opportunities to participate in park programs, such as public talks, live performances, or other forms of community engagement.
