Call to Artists The city of Pittsfield is looking for artists for the Pittsfield Paintbox Program which is intended to bring paintings to the streets’ utility boxes (load centers). Artists will transform the typically drab electrical boxes, increasing the vibrancy of the artful streetscape. Participating Paintbox artists may receive a $400 stipend ($150 supply stipend upon acceptance of their designs + $250 stipend upon completion of their boxes). Learn more.

Call for Boston Poets  The Mayor’s Poetry Program is accepting submissions to display selected poems on the walls of City Hall. Poets who live or work in Boston are invited to send in their work in order to help celebrate the city through poetry and to remind people what a culturally exciting city Boston is. Learn more.

Call for Artists, Musicians, Performers The Somerville Arts Council and Greg Cook, the fellow behind last year’s “Pity Party,” are looking for your help for the “Tiny Tall Ships Festival” in Union Square on the afternoon of May 14 (rain date May 15). The festival is a celebration of everything tiny and nautical. Seeking artists to make small ships, sea monsters, mermaids, icebergs, submarines, whales and other floating sculptures to float in lots of kiddie pools and/or race in a temporary lagoon; bands and DJs to play nautical/pirate/mermaid tunes; crafters who make things on these themes who would like to sell their crafts. Call to Artists The Brush Art Gallery and Studios, in partnership with Lowell National Historical Park, invites artists to enter their national juried exhibition, celebrating the 100-year anniversary of the National Park Service. Artists are encouraged to submit works that represent a broad view of interpretations to include environmental, ecological, cultural, historical, and political ideas. The jurors will consider a range of work from traditional representation to experimental in concept. Exhibition on display May 7 – June 10, 2016. $500 Prize for Best in Show. Learn more.

Arts, Crafts, & Talent in Somerville The Somerville Arts Council is accepting applications for artists, crafters, and talent to participate in 2016 ArtBeat: Roots. ArtBeat is one of the area’s largest and most innovative arts festivals, with over a dozen bands, dance troupes, craft vendors, food, and fun activities. There are separate calls for regional craft and fine art vendors as well as talent (musicians, performance artists, dancers, visual artists, storytellers, and more) to participate in the July 15-16 festival, themed “Roots.” Learn more.

Residencies for Writers and Poets Cirenaica is an artist residency nestled on 43 acres of hills, farmland, and forest in the quaint village of Fall Creek, Wisconsin. Cirenaica (translated from a Uruguayan fisherman language meaning “siren of the sea”) is the perfect getaway for working artists, a picturesque retreat that offers the splendor of small town life, while preserving the solitude necessary for pursuing one’s craft. Writers and poets can spend time working closely with writers including Wisconsin poet laureate Kimberly Blaeser, former Wisconsin poet laureate Max Garland, Nickolas Butler, Erika Janik, John Hildebrand, and B.J. Call to LGBT New England Artists Alternative Art Space in partnership with Boston Pride invites LGBT New England Artists to submit work for a juried show, with the aim to address the 2016 Boston Pride theme, Solidarity Through Pride. All 2D media to be considered with a finished/framed size no larger than 20” at the largest dimension. No video or sculpture. Learn more.

Call for Artists The Firehouse Center for the Arts in Newburyport is currently accepting proposals from emerging and established artists for its upcoming exhibition season. Artists will be selected by blind review for 12 one-person monthly exhibits from October 2016 – September 2017. Only 2D wall-hung artwork is eligible. Learn more.

Guest Artist Program The 2016/2017 Guest Artist Program in Natick offers established and emerging artists the opportunity to further develop their work, to establish professional contacts and standards, and to work within a supportive community of like-minded individuals. An independent jury of established working artists who work in the Natick Center Cultural District chooses finalists on the basis of artistic merit. Learn more.

Call for Artists The Arno Maris Gallery at Westfield State University is seeking visual imagery in all media for the Latinx exhibit that is celebrating the Hispanic/Latin Heritage Month. The exhibit is from September 1, 2016-October 14, 2016. Seeking visual art and decorative arts that highlight the Hispanic/Latin culture. Learn more.

Public Art Funding The Harvard-Allston Public Realm Flexible Fund supports projects in Allston/Brighton that enhance the public realm and for which public sources of financing may be unavailable or inadequate. Projects may include improvements in public parks and open space, neighborhood beautification, streetscape improvements, public safety projects, and public art, including functional art such as benches or bike racks. Two categories of grants have been defined: small (under $50,000) and large (over $50,000). Learn more.
