Call to Boston Area Artists The Downtown Boston Business Improvement District (BID) is seeking local artists to showcase their artwork on eight utility boxes in the Downtown Crossing District! The theme for the 2021 Utility Box Creative Placemaking Project is It’s WELCOME Time. As Boston resets and welcomes family, friends, workers, and visitors, they want to honor the variety and diversity of ways we welcome each other. Boston is a city with many welcoming traditions, whether it’s welcome mats, handshakes or hugs, special foods, or flowers. They want to spotlight these traditions and maybe get your ideas for new ones. Selected artists will be invited to create their own interpretation of this theme through original designs to be painted on a utility box right in the heart of Boston. Call for Artists-in-Residence Urbano Project is currently accepting proposals for its upcoming Artist Residencies (Fall 2021, Winter 2022, Spring 2022) from artists whose creative practices resonate with the theme of “Democracy.” Artists-in-Residence lead a 10-week Youth Artist Project (YAP) or Community Art Project (CAP) and develop a solo project, with a stipend of $5,000 and other resources. Short Documentaries The IF/Then Shorts and The Redford Center Nature Access Pitch is an open call for short docs featuring stories of people, places and paths to accessing the outdoors. Call to Artists ART in the PARK 2021 will be held in the award winning City Square Park, Charlestown, MA on Saturday, September 11, 2021 (rain date Sunday, September 12th). The Commonwealth of MA/Department of Conservation & Recreation are reviewing their application, and could deny approval based on Covid-19 restrictions in place at that time. If so a full refund will be provided if they are denied the permit. The Committee will review and accept applicants based on creativity, originality of the work and presentation. Only original works will be considered. Various mediums including acrylic, oil, mixed media and watercolor painting, original prints and/or limited editions prints, photography, sculpture, glass and pottery, jewelry, fabric, textile and other fine art are acceptable. Furniture Fellowship The Society of Arts and Crafts administers the John D. Mineck Furniture Fellowship, a prestigious, annual cash award of $25,000. Call to Artists Entries are currently being accepted for the Carter Burden Gallery’s juried exhibition 2021, Looking Forward (November 18 – December 18, 2021). The juror is Nancy Azara. Although selection will not be based on age, they particularly welcome artists over the age of 60 but are happy to accept submissions from any artist over 18 in the USA. Two-dimensional work, including the frame, must not exceed 36 inches in any direction and should be wired, labeled on the back, and ready to hang. No saw-tooth hangers. Three-dimensional pedestal pieces must not exceed 20 inches in any direction. Three-dimensional standing floor sculptures must not exceed 6 feet in height. Learn more.
