AREA CODE Art Fair: August 1-31, 2020

AREA CODE Art Fair was founded by David Guerra in response to the pandemic’s impact on New England’s arts and culture sector. The fair features works from New England’s most inspiring art galleries, nonprofit organizations, and individual artists without gallery representation. It’s free and presents a range of digital and decentralized in-person experiences across greater Boston, August 1-31, 2020.

After receiving approximately 500 submissions, the fair recently announced its full list of selected artists. This list includes many past Mass Cultural Council awardees. In the Main Section: Sophia Ainslie (Painting Fellow ’12), Karl Baden (Photography Finalist ’17, ’13), Juan Jose Barboza-Gubo and Andrew Mroczek (Photography Fellows ’19), Pelle Cass (Photography Finalist ’15), Rebecca Hutchinson (Crafts Finalist ’19), Vanessa Irzyk (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’14), Matthew King (Painting Finalist ’18), Erica Licea-Kane (Painting Fellow ’18), Anne Neely (Painting Finalist ’10), Evelyn Rydz (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’10), and Helena Wurzel (Painting Finalist ’16, ’10).

In the Drive-In Video/Digital Art Project section: Liz Nofziger (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Fellow ’05), Gina Siepel (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Finalist ’15), Ellen Wetmore (Film & Video Fellow ’17), and Yu-Wen Wu (Painting Fellow ’04).

In Special Projects: Tory Fair (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’18), Eben Haines (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’18), and Ben Sloat (Painting Fellow ’14).

This is the inaugural year. The fair currently accepting donations for its goal to become an annual, community-building event for artists and art lovers.
