Of Note: The Cultural Alliance of Medfield and the Town of Medfield seek inquiries of interest from artists, arts and creative groups, and creative education groups for prospective space on the 134-acre grounds of the former Medfield State Hospital. The Town of Medfield received a grant from the Cultural Facilities Fund to study the feasibility of transforming some of the space – all of which is on the National Historic Register –for creative use. Sculptors The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center in Vermont has extended their call for proposals to SculptFest2016. The annual sculptural installation event takes place from September 10 – October 23, 2016. The theme for this year’s outdoor exhibition is “Forecast Now,” guest curated by artist Taylor Apostol. The theme “Forecast Now” encourages artists to respond to current experiences of weather. Investigations may explore any aspect of weather or weather systems (for example: precipitation, wind, drought, heat, cold, flooding, erosion, hurricanes, earthquakes, etc.) or they may address the politics revolving around the critical issues of climate change and environmental sustainability. Artist Residency The National Parks Arts Foundation is currently accepting applications for the Gettysburg 2016 Artists in Residence Program. Gettysburg National Military Park Artist-in-Residence program is designed for all artists to pursue their particular art form while surrounded by the inspiring landscape and history of Gettysburg National Military Park. The prospective candidate must present a cohesive body of work, a complete application including their resume, biography and proposal of their residency project and how it reflects and may be inspired park resources. All candidates must have merit and/or experience in at least one of the following areas: two dimensional artwork, sculpture, music, linguistics, writing, screendance, performance art, film, and/or ethnographic fine art, or any other appropriate artist medium. Writing Awards The Sustainable Arts Foundation is currently accepting applications. Up to five awards of $6,000 each and up to five Promise Awards of $2,000 each are given twice yearly to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers with children. Writers with at least one child under the age of 18 are eligible. Submit up to 10 poems totaling no more than 25 pages or up to 25 pages of prose. Learn more.
