NEW: Mass Cultural Council’s Cultural Sector Recovery Grants for Individuals are unrestricted $5,000 grants to creatives and gig workers to support recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and set a path for growth. Read the program guidelines. Key dates for this program include:
Application opens: August 15, 2022
Information sessions: August 23 and October 6, 2022
Application deadline: November 1, 2022

Of Note Artist Appreciation August presented by the Small Business Administration (SBA) and Mass Cultural Council, sharing resources for artists and entrepreneurs to help you take the next step as a creative entrepreneur. Learn about SBA programs and funding as well as grant opportunities and support from the Mass Cultural Council. Please note that this session is for artists and entrepreneurs located in Massachusetts, as the resources are specific to the state. Thursday, August 18, 2022, 1-2 p.m. Register via Eventbrite.

National Leaders of Color Fellowship The New England Foundation for the Arts is excited to work with their colleagues on this important initiative, the National Leaders of Color Fellowship (LoCF). This is a national opportunity for early, emerging, or mid-career BIPOC leaders in the arts to participate in an eight-month fellowship held online from October 2022–May 2023. Learn more.

Call to Artists Art Fluent invites artists worldwide to submit artwork to their online exhibit, UNITY. Over $1,200 in cash prizes. The state of being united. Unity can show us a world through a different lens. Artists use it to visually tie together certain elements (color, line, shape, texture) within their composition. It gives us a feeling of cohesion where it connects these principles and helps us make sense of the work as complete – helping to deliver an understanding of harmony and balance. A piece would not be finished without it; how does your work communicate unity? Show us UNITY from your perspective. All accepted pieces will be displayed in their online gallery at www.art-fluent.com. Learn more.

Playwright Residency The Boston Center for the Arts has announced a new BCA Playwright Residency for 2022-2023. This year-long residency is designed to support rising playwrights by providing office, rehearsal, and performance space, marketing support, professional mentorship, as well as access to community partnerships, workshops, and a platform for creating and producing innovative work. Learn more.

Cape and Island Artists Emerging artists on Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket are encouraged to apply for an intensive capacity-building initiative through the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod’s (AFCC) Creative Exchange program. Ten local artists will be selected to spend a little under a year focusing on their professional development to ensure the financial sustainability of their creative practices. The AFCC is partnering with the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA) in North Adams, which will be bringing its Assets for Artists program to the community cohort of Cape-based creatives. Call for Art The Umbrella Arts Center regularly invites their community and beyond to submit work for a variety of gallery and site-specific exhibitions. Artists can apply to their upcoming exhibition Lost and Found, a new juried show that examines our relationships with familiar, unfamiliar and defamiliarized objects. Learn more.

Boston Artadia Awards The Boston Artadia Awards are open to all visual artists living and working throughout Allston, Arlington, Belmont, Beverly, Boston, Brighton, Brookline, Cambridge, Chelsea, Dedham, Everett, Fall River, Gloucester, Lawrence, Lexington, Lowell, Lynn, Malden, Manchester-by-the-Sea, Marblehead, Medford, Melrose, Milton, Nahant, New Bedford, Newton, Peabody, Quincy, Revere, Salem, Saugus, Somerville, Stoneham, Swampscott, Wakefield, Waltham, Watertown, Winchester, Winthrop, and Woburn for a minimum of two years. Individual artists and collaboratives working in all media, and at any stage in their career are strongly encouraged to apply. Artadia Awardees are selected through a two-tier jury process that combines local expertise with outside perspective from leading curators. Three Awardees will be selected from the Finalist pool to receive unrestricted Awards of $10,000 each. The 2022 Boston Awardees will be announced in mid-October. Learn more and apply.

Call to Artists Artists are invited to submit work to the 19th Annual Massasoit Art Guild Art Show and Sale in Spencer, MA. They invite you to enter up to five pieces of artwork in the following categories: Oil, Watercolor, Acrylic, Pastel, Drawings & Prints, Mixed Media, and Traditional and Digitally Enhanced Photography. Call to Artists Artists are invited to enter the Artists’ Group of Charlestown’s Fall Exhibition is called United: The Art Of Bringing Us Back To Each Other. When we’ve been living in a world of social distancing and interacting through plexiglass barriers, how do we come back together, in person? The longing for connection lays deep in our DNA. As we begin to draw closer to each other again, we cautiously shed isolation. As we reacclimate to our new social existence, we are rekindling connection, collaboration, and reconciliation. United: The Art of Bringing Us Back To Each Other is the Artist’s opportunity to visually narrate their experience of reengaging with each other, and the world. All media, 2D (Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Photography), 3D (Sculpture, Ceramics), and Fiber Arts, are eligible. Any form of representation (realism, abstraction, and everything in between) are eligible. Learn more.
