Mass Cultural Council and The New Art Center (NAC) will present the Mass Cultural Council Artist Fellows and Finalists in Painting, October 28-November 15, 2014 at the NAC, 61 Washington Park in Newtonville, MA. The exhibition will showcase the Mass Cultural Council’s Artist Fellowships 2014 awardees – a selection of some of the Commonwealth’s most talented painters. The installation will be curated by independent curator, FLUX.Boston creator, and NAC Board member Liz Devlin in collaboration with NAC Exhibitions Director Kathleen Smith Redman.
The exhibition features 15 artists: Linda Mieko Allen (North Adams), Sonia Almeida (Arlington), Candice Smith Corby (Plymouth), Sean Downey (Jamaica Plain), Frank Egloff (Jamaica Plain), Sean Greene (Florence), Timothy Kadish (Brookline), Steve Locke (Boston), Mary Lum (North Adams), Vanessa Michalak (Jamaica Plain), Robert Oppenheim (Boston), Samuel Rowlett (Easthampton), Benjamin Sloat (Allston), Azadeh Tajpour (Cambridge) and Bill Thompson (Jamaica Plain). These distinguished painters were selected from a pool of 591 applicants. The jurors included Nina Chanel Abney (Artist), Randi Hopkins (Associate Director of Visual Arts, Boston Center for the Arts), Sarah Kurz (Artist), and Lexi Lee Sullivan (Assistant Curator at deCordova Sculpture Park + Museum).
