Filmmakers The GlobeDocs Emerging Filmmaker Competition has extended their deadline.  The Boston Globe invites students and filmmakers under 25 years old to submit an original short film to our emerging filmmakers contest. Winning selections will be screened during the 11th annual GlobeDocs Film Festival. Learn more.

Professional Development The Arts Action Consortium is hosting a workshop on Project Managment with Ana Tinajero on September  10 & 17. Working on an artistic endeavor, event, or production and not sure where to start? Get an introduction into the basic building blocks of planning, executing, and monitoring a project, no matter the size. Ana Tinajero is an award-winning Afro-Latin dance artist, entrepreneur, and performing arts curator who loves engineering spaces for community connection through the arts. In this workshop, she will cover the fundamentals of crafting a blueprint for success. Learn more.

CreativeGround The New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA)CreativeGround Profile Support Session. Grab tips and ask questions about creating or improving one’s CreativeGround profile. Sessions are held monthly. CreativeGround equips New England’s creative communities with the tools for visibility, connection, and knowledge building.   Learn more.

Of Note: ART in the PARK is an annual juried art event sponsored by the Artists’ Group of Charlestown. ART in the PARK 2025 will be held in the award winning City Square Park, Charlestown, MA on Saturday, September 6, 2025 (rain date Sunday, September 7th). Learn more.

Call For Art Hunchback Gallery in Worcester invites artists to submit their spooky, weird, witchy, or haunted works for Creepin’ It Real, a Halloween-inspired group show on view October 9 – November 1, 2025. There are no size requirements, restrictions of medium, or other restraints. Submit 1-2 pieces. Learn more.

Choreographers, Dancers Fund Applications for the New England Dance Fund are currently being accepted. NEFA will award grants of $1,000 directly to choreographers who identify and articulate an important opportunity that will significantly impact aspects of their dance making or advance their role within the regional New England dance landscape. Boston Area Visual Artist Awards Artadia is now accepting applications for the 2025 Boston Artadia Awards from all visual artists who have lived and worked within Bristol, Essex, Middlesex, Norfolk, Plymouth, and Suffolk Counties for a minimum of two years. Individual artists and collaboratives working in all visual media and at any stage in their career are strongly encouraged to apply. Awardees will be selected through a two-tier jury process that employs a panel of leading curators in the fall of 2025. Artadia Awardees are selected through a two-tier jury process that combines local expertise with outside perspective from leading curators. A preliminary panel will evaluate all online submissions and select six Finalists in late-September. A second panel will conduct virtual studio visits with each Finalist, gaining a broader context for the artists’ work. Of the Finalists, the jurors will designate three artists to receive awards of $15,000 in unrestricted funds. Guggenheim Fellowships The Guggenheim Fellowship is an annual competition celebrating exceptional achievements in the arts, sciences, and humanities. Roughly 190 Fellowships are awarded each year. The Guggenheim Fellowship supports individuals who have achieved notable success in their careers across the creative arts, humanities, sciences, and social sciences. It is designed for mid-career professionals whose work is well-established. Potential Fellows have already made significant contributions to their field and are eager for time and resources that will allow them to further their meaningful work. While many applicants are affiliated with an academic institution or university, independent scholars, writers, and artists are eligible to apply. Learn more.

Residency Fellowships Vermont Studio Center(VCA) is accepting applications for residencies for visual artists and writers. VSC offers 2, 3, and 4-week residencies in an inclusive international community, honoring creative work as the communication of spirit through form. Learn more.

Artist Residency Applications for the Artist Residency Program at the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center in New York Mills, MN, are now open. This retreat program offers artists a dedicated time to focus on their respective disciplines, whether it’s writing, dancing, singing, or visual arts. Open to all artist. Artists are responsible for their transportation to and from New York Mills, MN, and for their meals during the residency. The Cultural Center provides resident artists with accommodations in a one-bedroom house that is equipped with all linens, dishes, and essentials. Learn more.

Professional Development Grant for Public Art Practices The Public Art Learning Fund provides grants of $500 to $3,000 to support professional development opportunities for New England artists to strengthen their public art practices. Through the Public Art Learning Fund, NEFA intends to foster the continued development of more equitable, inclusive, and vibrant public spaces and public life throughout New England. Learn more.

Local Cultural Council Grants The Massachusetts Cultural Council offers funding to individuals, groups, and organizations to support local cultural projects that include everything from field trips to lectures, festivals, and dance performances. Learn more.

      Thanks for that clarification! We changed the title from “Brassy Artist Opportunities” to “Riffing on Artist Opportunities”.
