Massachusetts Poet Laureate In February, Governor Maura Healey signed an executive order creating the first-ever Poet Laureate of Massachusetts. This new, honorary position is intended to promote poetry and creative expression across the state, serve as the Governor and Lieutenant Governor’s ambassador of the arts, and inspire the next generation of writers. Mass Cultural Council, in collaboration with Diversity North Group, just released the 2024 Massachusetts Cultural Asset Inventory. This comprehensive project, which took place from February 2024 to December 2024, identifies and documents thousands of cultural organizations, programs, and individuals contributing to the state’s vibrant cultural landscape. The Cultural Asset Inventory provides a wealth of information that will be instrumental in informing future cultural policies, programs, and initiatives. Mass Cultural Council will host several convenings to present the findings of the Cultural Asset Inventory and take questions. Artist Residency Applications for the Artist Residency Program at the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center in New York Mills, MN are now being accepted. The residency program is open to artists of all disciplines, writers, poets, playwrights, visual artists, musicians, and dancers, and offers time and space to create without distraction. Artists are responsible for their own transportation to and from New York Mills, MN, and food while in residence. The Cultural Center provides a one-bedroom home, with all linens, dishes, etc. The Center requests that artists perform an outreach project, usually within the schools. Call for Workshop & Program Proposals: The Monotype Guild of New England is seeking proposals by artists and art educators for a series of paid hands-on workshops, print demonstrations, gallery and artist talks in conjunction with their upcoming national juried exhibition “40 Years of Unique Prints” at The Art Complex Museum in summer 2025. MGNE welcomes proposals for programs related to the exhibition for a range of audiences, printmaking techniques and artistic levels. Year-Long Ceramic Artist Residency at Mudflat In 1996 Mudflat began offering a one-year residency position to clay artists. This highly competitive program provides a private studio space at no cost with access to Mudflat’s facility, a monthly materials stipend, a monthly housing stipend, and opportunities to teach and sell work. 2025 Congressional Art Competition, officially sanctioned by the U.S. House of Representatives. If you are a student residing in the MA 4th District, you can submit one original piece for consideration in the Congressional Art Competition through the office of Congressman Auchincloss. Each year, the Congressman assembles an independent panel of artists from across the Massachusetts 4th District to select the winning submission. This piece will be sent down to Washington, DC to hang in the U.S. Capitol for the next year. Learn more.

Poets The Berkshire Prize for a First or Second Book of Poetry includes a cash award of $3,000 in addition to publication by Tupelo Press, 20 copies of the winning title, a book launch, and national distribution with energetic publicity and promotion.
