Of Note: The Massachusetts Artists Leaders Coalition (MALC) and Artmorpheus have announced the release of 2018 By Artists, For Artists report on Massachusetts artists of all disciplines, makers, and creative entrepreneurs. The By Artists, For Artists report synthesizes and shares the data collected from a 2017 survey of nearly 850 respondents in all artistic disciplines. Call to Artists The Fort Point Arts Community seeks submissions to In the Future…its next exhibition within Atlantic Wharf Gallery. In the Future… interrogates the past and present with artworks that imagine any number of potential futures. Call to Artists Larkin Arts in Harrisburg, VA is accepting entries for their national juried visual art competition and exhibition. Open to any artist who is a resident of the United States and is over the age of 18, working in two-dimensional media. Painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, and mixed media works with a maximum depth of five inches; as well as other traditional or non-traditional two-dimensional media, excluding film, are welcome. Call to Artists An open and invitational call for entries for Art and Innovation, one of three exhibitions that will be part of a series held at The Gallery in Malden, 480 Main Street, Malden. Open to all artists and designers in the general Boston region. When new ways and thought disrupt the status quo, innovation is present. Call to Artists The Boston University Center for Humanities is currently accepting submissions for the art exhibit they plan to host in conjunction with their fall forum, Humanities Approaches to the Opioid Crisis. All Boston/Massachusetts area artists are welcome to submit. They want artwork focusing on the opioids crisis. Any work selected will be seen by those participating in the forum, including high-level government officials, Boston community leaders, and notable scholars in the area. They will accept any 2D work (painting, photography, drawing, printmaking, and so forth) that adheres to the guidelines outlined below and reflects the themes of the event. The exhibit will be housed inside the Center for the Humanities, CAS B-02 & B-03, and in one of the cases outside the Center, and will run from Friday, October 19 to Monday, November 19, 2018. Some works will be selected for a pop-up exhibit on October 13th, to be on display during the forum in the reception area outside of the Law School Auditorium. Learn more.

Women in Film The World of Women’s Cinema – WOW Film Fair Middle East is the first women’s short film fair that promotes and awards the talents of women directors, producers, writers, editors and cinematographers in the film industry internationally. Call for Artists If you are a female artist living in one of 36 states on the tour (MA is included), consider being a part of history. Consider being a part of HerFlag. They are seeking 36 female/self-identifying collaborators in 36 states to help with the creation of a printed flag to celebrate the anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment that gave women the right to vote. The participating artists will represent each of the 36 states that helped pass the 19th Amendment. You need to be currently living in the state you are applying to represent. You will need to be able to travel to the capital city of your state on a specific date to hand over your completed stripe and be a part of the public performance while your stripe is added to the flag. Selected artists will receive a $1,000 stipend. The finished flag will be 18 feet by 26 feet. There will be 36 stripes, one to represent each state that ratified the 19th amendment. The selected 36 pieces of art will be sent to Her Flag in a digital format. They will have all 36 separate stripes professional printed on commercial grade fabric ready for the assemble on the road.
