Call to Artists Hard Times, a juried exhibition at Kingston Gallery, Boston, MA (January 5-29, 2023). This exhibition will be juried by Martina Tanga, the Curatorial Research and Interpretation Associate, Art of the Americas, at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. The words Hard Times have resonated in our culture since Charles Dickens’ novel of the same name, and they are ever more relevant today. Our world now faces a growing onslaught of issues including economic inequality, climate change, racism, threats to our democracy, rising authoritarianism, an ongoing pandemic, social isolation, and grief. During these moments, the sheer scale of suffering can feel insurmountable. All media will be considered, and alternative media is welcomed. There is no minimum size requirement, but once installed, work may not exceed 6 feet in height. Learn more.

Artists Networking Social Mass Cultural Council will be joining New England Foundation for the Arts, BuyBlackNB, Entrepreneurship for All South Coast, and New Bedford Creative for Artist Networking Happy Hour on September 14 in New Bedford. Grant for Boston Artists Artadia, a nonprofit grantmaker is offering grants to Boston artists. Applicants must be a contemporary visual artist, making artwork for presentation in a contemporary art context: museum, galleries, arts non-profit, the public art realm, etc. Artadia does not fund filmmakers making films for distribution in cinematic venues, or those working in choreography presented outside of a contemporary art context. Offering three awards of $10,000 in unrestricted funds, the application is open to visual artists living and working within Boston The application is free and very simple. Learn more.

Poetry Festival Proposals Massachusetts Poetry Festival, which will occur in-person in Salem, Massachusetts on May 5-7, 2023, is inviting individuals and groups to submit proposals for participation in the Festival. The Festival is committed to showcasing creative, innovative, and diverse events, including panel discussions, poetry readings, poetry slams, poetry with music, workshops, and other events that defy categorization. Exhibition Proposals Consisting of bi-monthly shows of two-dimensional works by New England area artists in the Jamaica Plain Branch Library’s public exhibition space. Local Cultural Council Grants Applications are currently being accepted for Local Cultural Council grants. Applicants may apply to the LCC Program for projects, operating support, ticket subsidy programs, field trips, artist residencies, fellowships or other activities, based on local priorities and needs. LCCs may also choose to fund cultural field trips for children, grades pre-K through 12, by subsidizing the cost for children to attend programs in the arts, humanities, and sciences (including performances, educational tours, and exhibits). Teaching Artists Residency Grants The Mass Cultural Council’s STARS Residencies Program has grants for artists to do residencies with students in K-12 schools. STARS offers $2500 – $6100 for creative learning residencies of 3 days or more in the arts, sciences, and humanities with artists, scientists, and humanists. New this year: artists can apply directly for the grant, provided you have a school partner. Note that schools can be involved in only one STARS Residencies application per school year. The online application opens Wednesday, September 28, 2022. To access the application, you need to be registered in our online grants management system.
