Webinars with Arts Administrators Arts Administration Association New England is holding a series of “Sip and Chat” webinars with arts administrators from the region. The next discussion is October 8, 2020, 4 PM, featuring Juliet Feibel, Executive Director, ArtsWorcester; Michael Rose, Gallery Manager, Providence Art Club, Art Editor Boston Accent Lit; and Jennifer Jean Okumura, Visual Artist, Fine Art Advisor, Co-Founder, Invoke Contemporary.
Playwrights The Eugene O’Neill Theater Center in Waterford, CT is now accepting scripts for development during the 2021 National Playwrights Conference. The 2021 National Playwrights Conference will likely look different due to the continuing presence of COVID-19. The core tenets of the NPC process remain, however, and feature a writer-driven development with collaboration and rehearsal time with actors and creative teams. Muralist The Boston Transportation Department is seeking proposals from artists to paint artwork on a privately-owned wall at 457 Blue Hill Avenue in the Grove Hall neighborhood. This wall is highly visible and faces onto a public plaza and popular restaurants. They are seeking artists who would like to create a unique piece of artwork for the Grove Hall community on this wall measuring 101 feet long and 13.5 feet tall. Learn more.

Call to Artists Entries are currently being accepted for the fifteenth annual Arts in Bloom show to be juried by Marie Craig, director of Fountain Street Gallery, awarded Best of Boston in 2019. Arts in Bloom is a competitive juried annual show open to all artists. Marie will choose the artwork to be exhibited, and will also select six outstanding works for awards. These artworks will be honored with fresh flower arrangements designed by Hopkinton Garden Club members. The six winning artists will also receive cash prizes totaling over $1,000. Learn more.

Artist Relief – Cycle VII To support artists during the COVID-19 crisis, a coalition of national arts grantmakers have come together to create an emergency initiative to offer financial and informational resources to artists across the United States. Artist Relief will distribute $5,000 grants to artists facing dire financial emergencies due to COVID-19; serve as an ongoing informational resource; and co-launch the COVID-19 Impact Survey for Artists and Creative Workers, designed by Americans for the Arts, to better identify and address the needs of artists. Documentary Media Grants The IDA Enterprise Documentary Fund development grant supports documentaries that take on in-depth explorations of original, contemporary stories while integrating journalistic practice into the filmmaking process. Shorts, features, series, podcasts, VR and other emerging media formats are all eligible for the fund. In addition to $15,000, grantees also receive additional resources depending on the needs of the project. Previous recipients have received pro bono legal support, research and fact-checking support, and consultations with experts and craftspeople. Learn more.

Public Art The City of Worcester is now accepting qualifications from artists and designers for the creation of a public art installation inspired by 19th-century Worcester activist and abolitionist Abby Kelley Foster. The Requests for Qualifications (RFQs) are open to all artists, artist teams and design professionals with experience in public art design. Professionals residing in or with studio space in the city of Worcester and the New England region are encouraged to apply. Fellowship The MIT Libraries’ Department of Distinctive Collections is seeking applicants for the Women@MIT 2021 Fellowship. This is a paid, fully remote fellowship opportunity. They invite scholars, activists, artists, musicians, and writers who are engaged in the expansion and expression of knowledge to help inform the understanding of women in MIT’s history and the history of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. They are particularly interested in those who will apply the interdisciplinary lenses and methodologies of women’s studies, gender studies, and/or race and ethnic studies. Fellows will work remotely with the Women@MIT project archivist and other staff within the MIT Libraries’ Department of Distinctive Collections. Successful candidates must be willing to engage in virtual archival research and collaborations with other MIT Libraries colleagues in a remote environment. MA Poetry Festival Proposals Mass Poetry is searching for individuals and groups to submit proposals for the 2021 Massachusetts Poetry Festival (May 14-16, 2021). The festival will take place in a hybrid format, with the majority of events offered virtually and a select number of events offered in Salem, MA. They are committed to showcasing creative, innovative, and diverse events; including panel discussions, poetry readings, poetry slams, poetry with music, workshops, and other events that defy categorization.
