Call to Artists Seeking artist submissions for Sound on Mystic, a site-specific audio installation that combines music, storytelling, spoken word and ambience into an intimate immersive experience. The installation will be accessed through a free mobile app, which uses GPS data to cue different sound works as the user moves along a two-mile stretch of the Mystic River. Uniting these diverse sounds is the river itself and its complex significance for the whole Boston region. The installation will launch publicly in Spring 2021, featuring a collection of sound works in a range of sonic genres. Possible formats for the individual pieces include music (instrumental or vocal), poetry or spoken word, audio essay or documentary, guided experience, sound art, oral history, audio drama, comedy, and ambience. We are open to other genres as well. Most important is that each piece connects with the river directly – its sounds, stories, inhabitants, history, ecology, and geography. Participating artists will receive an honorarium of $400. Learn more.
