NonFiction Writers A prize of $10,000 and publication by Restless Books will be given in alternating years for a book of fiction and a book of nonfiction by a first-generation resident of the United States. The 2016 prize will be given in nonfiction. Memoirs, essay collections, and works of narrative nonfiction by writers who have not published a work of nonfiction with a U.S. publisher are eligible. Anjali Singh, Ilan Stavans, and Héctor Tobar will judge. Using the online submission system, submit a full-length nonfiction manuscript or excerpt of at least 25,000 words with a cover letter and a curriculum vitae by February 28. There is no entry fee. Call for Art The Art Stop Pop-Up Galleries in the Springfield Central Cultural District is seeking artists to show in one of three pop-up galleries in Downtown Springfield, aimed to activate spaces and encourage walkability. The three locations, at New England Public Radio, 1550 Main Street, and SilverBrick Lofts, are seeking 2D art to hang from March – June 2017. ACRE Summer Artist Residency Program The ACRE Residency Program takes place every summer in rural Southwest Wisconsin. Developed as a means to support emerging visual artists, sound artists, musicians, performers, writers and curators, the program provides artists with the opportunity to expand upon their individual practices as well as take part in optional programming within a collaborative community. ACRE’s 12-day or 14-day residencies host 25-30 residents at a time. Additionally, visiting artists are invited to conduct studio visits and present lectures, discussions, and workshops. Set on 1,000 acres of wetland, hills, and farmland, the residency facilities include expansive communal work-spaces, a screen-printing studio, wood shop, ceramics studio, fibers studio, an art & tech facility, and a sound studio. Shared accommodations are furnished with bathrooms, kitchenettes, and decks. All meals are provided, and are prepared daily using ingredients grown in the surrounding area. Photographers Entries are currently being accepted for the Griffin Museum of Photography’s 23rd Annual Juried Show. The juror is Hamidah Glasgow. $2,500 Ed Friedman Award, $1,000 Arthur Griffin Legacy Award, $500 Griffin Award, and Honorable Mentions. The Griffin Museum will choose two photographers to showcase in exhibitions during the timing of the 24th juried exhibition. These 2 artists will be chosen from submissions not included in the 23rd Juried Show. The Griffin will also choose two artists from submissions not included in the 23rd Juried Show to be exhibited in the Griffin Virtual Gallery and on-line Critic’s Pick Gallery.
