Paid Gig for Somerville Artists The Somerville Arts Council is launching the “Home Alone Art Series (HAAS).” Their goal is to hire and pay Somerville artists (both residents and those who have a studio in the city) who have been directly impacted by Covid-19. They understand the importance of social distancing yet we also want to stay connected and continue to support artists. HAAS is a series of art related performances / workshops / how to videos / lectures, live streamed by you on Facebook! The performances can represent a variety of genres, including: Music, Visual Arts, Performance, Writing, Theater, Dance and Multidisciplinary art forms. Call for Art To remind us of the community we have, and will one day see again, Gallery 263 invites Massachusetts-based artists and students to submit artwork for an online showcase titled Touchy Feely. In Touchy Feely, their website will host a digital exhibition where artists can share their latest work and support the belief that, even as we are sequestered, a thriving art community still stands strong. Muralist The Somerville Arts Council, in conjunction with Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA), seeks a muralist for a highly visible public art project located at the CHA Somerville Hospital on Highland Avenue. Stipend: CHA will be contracting with muralist for $7,500, this includes all supplies and labor. CHA will be providing boom lift which will be needed. The mural will be painted on the side of the building facing the parking lot. The area is approximately 30’ x 50’. CHA seeks designs that will capture the values of CHA: Community, Integrity, Respect, Compassion, Learning and Excellence (CIRCLE) and specifically that speaks to the CHA mission, the commitment to the wellbeing of residents and togetherness of our communities. Media Grants Webinar The National Endowment for the Humanities will offer a free webinar on their media grants. Discussion will focus on funding for long-form documentaries as well as a new grant program for short documentaries and will offer tips on preparing your proposal, discuss what makes an application competitive, and will share news. Call to Artists Boston University’s new Metropolitan College building has been refurbished and hosts numerous graduate programs and the Arts Administration program. They’re looking for new artists of all mediums to apply for exhibit at their 1010 Gallery. Artists will be accepted for either the January-June or July-December cycles or for an annual show. Freelance Writers The Writers Emergency Assistance Fund, sponsored by the American Society of Journalists and Authors (ASJA), “helps established freelance writers who, because of illness, disability, a natural disaster, or an extraordinary professional crisis are unable to work.” Applicants need not be members of the ASJA but must have five published articles from regional or national publications or one book published by a major publishing house. Artist Residency Emergency Fund The Alliance of Artists Communities’ Emergency Funds for Individual Artists Participating in Residencies supports “artists facing an unforeseen emergency or triggering event to participate in artists’ residencies. The fund disburses mini-grants to artists who have already been accepted and scheduled for a residency, but who would not otherwise be able to participate due to a sudden change in circumstances.” Learn more.
Writers Emergency Funds Authors League Fund offers assistance to “professional authors, journalists, poets, and dramatists who find themselves in financial need because of medical or health-related problems, temporary loss of income, or other misfortune.” Learn more.
Writers Emergency Funds Carnegie Fund for Authors awards “grants to published authors who are in need of emergency financial assistance as a result of illness or injury to self, spouse, or dependent child, or who has had some other misfortune that has placed the applicant in pressing and substantial pecuniary need.” Learn more.
Writers Emergency Funds The PEN America Writers’ Emergency Fund is “a small grants program for professional—published or produced—writers in acute or unexpected financial crises. Depending on the situation and level of need, grants are in the range of $2,000.” Learn more.
