The LEF Foundation is an invaluable resource for nonfiction filmmakers in New England. We’re happy to report that LEF New England has upcoming funding and fellowship opportunities.
Founded in 1985, the LEF Foundation is a longtime supporter of New England arts. Currently, its funding priority is nonfiction film through the Moving Image Fund.
LEF New England is now accepting submissions for Moving Image Fund grants from New England-based filmmakers making feature-length (40+ minute) non-fiction film projects. Production grants of $15,000 will be awarded and post-production grants of $25,000 will be awarded (post-production is only open to projects that have received prior LEF funding). Prospective applicants are strongly encouraged to read the LEF New England Moving Image Fund guidelines and frequently asked questions, and to contact LEF staff by e-mail to determine whether your project is eligible and a good fit for LEF’s funding priorities. Submission Deadline: January 24 2020 at 11:59pm (midnight).
New Film Fellowship Opportunity! Boston-area finalists for LEF Moving Image Fund production and post-production grants will be eligible to apply for the Harvard Film Study Center – LEF Foundation Fellowship, which offers access to the Film Study Center’s pool of production and post-production equipment, the opportunity to participate in the Harvard FSC community through work-in-progress screenings, workshops, and other activities, and a $10,000 grant over the course of the 2020-2021 academic year. The inaugural Harvard FSC Fellow was James Rutenbeck (Film & Video Finalist ’19, ’11).
The LEF Foundation is also the force behind The DocYard, a film and discussion series that runs from January through April at the Brattle Theatre in Cambridge. Along with screening some of the most engaging documentary films currently being made, the series celebrates the Boston area’s history as a hub of innovation in nonfiction filmmaking.
