Call for Artists and Artisans Application materials are now available for the 31st annual Laudholm Nature Crafts Festival, which will be held September 8 and 9, 2018, on the historic campus of the Wells Reserve at Laudholm, Maine. The world of nature is a unifying theme for this juried festival in a spectacular seaside setting. Quality and originality are key criteria used by the selection committee. Call for Art/Technology Work Boston Cyberarts loves hearing about the amazing work of the extensive Cyberarts community and are excited to be organizing a juried exhibition of art/technology art to open Saturday May 25 through Sunday July 1 at Boston Cyberarts Gallery. They are looking for work that pairs art and technology in a thought provoking and visually engaging manner. They’re particularly interested in pieces that use technology to facilitate art, or art to observe technology from a novel perspective, preferably some combination of the two. Boundary-pushing is desired and respected. Works that address, rather than use, technology on a conceptual level may also be considered. Judging will be finalized by April 10. Painters Grant The Lillian Orlowsky and William Freed Grant for artists, offered annually by the Provincetown Art Association and Museum (PAAM), is now open for submissions. The grant is available to American painters over the age of 45, and jurors look particularly for those who demonstrate financial need and/or are under-recognized. Call for Art The Brookline Arts Center is seeking proposals for an eight-week artist residency in their historic art center in Brookline, MA. One dynamic artist or small collaborative group will have the opportunity to experiment and expand their body of work with the support of the BAC. Artist(s) selected will design, create and exhibit an installation or series of work in their unique gallery space. Starting Over Festival The Somerville Arts Council and outdoors-type-person Greg Cook are looking for art and science for the “Starting Over Festival.” The April 22, 2018, event (rain date: April 29) is a free, one-afternoon celebration of the return of spring, urban wildlife, and new possibilities. We hope hundreds of people will attend. The “Staring Over Festival” will be held outdoors at the Quincy Street Open Space, Somerville’s smallest “urban wild.” The event will be part of the city’s Earth Day and Arbor Day festivities—and include a tree planting, sapling give-away and other environmentally-engaged activities. They are looking for visual art, Afro-futurism, installations, scientific presentations, audience-participatory projects, performances (music, dance, spoken word), urban planning, and shenanigans addressing the above themes that can be presented outdoors in the park during the festival.
