Practice Best Practice Free Online Workshop Writing Placemaking Grants, February 15, 2023, 5:30pm – 7:30pm. Publicly accessible art and community participation are at the heart of many arts and culture grants, known as place-based grants. This workshop will cover the basic building blocks that make up a proposal, including the review process and how to persevere through rejection. Led by reviewers and successful grant writers with place-based grant experience, they will discuss what makes a good proposal and what makes a good placemaking project. Rauschenberg Dancer Emergency Grants This program provides one-time grants of up to $5,000 to professional dancers in need, who have a dire financial emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences. Learn more.

Mudflat Pottery School Summer Artists of Color Residency Applicants are invited at any career stage, to apply for a short term ceramic residency program at Mudflat Pottery School in Somerville, MA. This residency program will be offered during a flexible period within the summer months. Mudflat will provide support to candidates to structure the residency to further their artistic career, facilitating mentorship relationships, as desired, within the area(s) of interest. Public Art Leadership Award The New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA) is currently accepting nominations for the 2023 Newell Flather Award for Leadership in Public Art. Through the Newell Flather Leadership Award in Public Art, they hope to celebrate and lift up leaders, artists, and arts administrators in the field who are helping us live into these new realities. Women’s Prose Prize Entries are currently being accepted for Red Hen Press’s Women’s Prose Prize of $1,000 as well as publication. The award is given annually for a book of fiction or nonfiction by a writer who identifies as a woman. Cai Emmons will judge. Using only the online submission system, submit a story or essay collection, a novel, memoir, or other manuscript of prose of 25,000 to 80,000 words. Learn more.

Call to Cambridge Artists The City of Cambridge invites local artists to submit their illustrations, prints, photographs, or other 2D media to the third Vacant Storefront Creative Design Contest. Six winners will receive a $1,000 prize and their artwork will be displayed in windows of vacant commercial properties in Cambridge. Artist Residency The Ucross Residency Program in Sheridan, Wyoming, is currently accepting applications. This residency program is open to visual artists, writers, composers, choreographers, interdisciplinary artists, and performance artists, as well as collaborative teams. Performing Artists The New England States Touring program (NEST) has three distinct grant opportunities and all three are accepting applications through March 1, 2023:
• NEST 1: Funds the public presentation and engagement of a New England artist presented by a New England nonprofit organization.
• NEST 2: Funds the public presentation and community engagement activities of a New England artist presented by two New England nonprofit organizations. Tours must include one presenting organization based inside of the artist’s home state and one other organization from outside of the artist’s home state.
• NEST 3: Funds tours, including public presentation and community engagement activities, of regional, national, or international artists presented by New England nonprofit organizations. Tours must include a minimum of three New England organizations in different communities presenting the same artist. The organizations applying must be from at least two different New England states.

Call for Art Entries are currently being accepted for the Twentieth ArtsWorcester Biennial, an exhibition that has included a range of the region’s best visual art since 1985. This year’s Biennial will be juried by Conor Moynihan, Assistant Curator, Prints, Drawings and Photographs at the RISD Museum. The winner of the Sally Bishop Biennial Prize will receive a $1,000 cash award and a solo exhibition at the Worcester Art Museum during their 2023-24 season. The ArtsWorcester Biennial has no theme. Edward Kemeys’ extensive study of animals in the wild gave him a feeling for their characters. His sculptures convey a wildness and individuality that were lost to animals in captivity. Although the beasts in many of his sculptures appear at rest, we often get the sense that more is happening in the wider environment.
