Short Plays The Huntington Theatre Company will be hosting a Bake-Off Play Reading. The Bake-Off is a great chance for both professional and amateur writers to flex their muscles. Bake-Offs are 5 minute plays that are written quickly, on an assigned theme, and include assigned elements. This year’s theme is Romeo and Juliet. On March 18th they will host a reading of the Bake-Off plays on the Huntington Avenue Theatre stage. Learn more.
Craft Fellowship Every other year, the Society of Arts and Crafts gives out three awards of $3000 each given out to exceptional craft artists living and working in New England. Learn more.

Performance Residency Applications are currently being accepted for the 2019 Black Spacial Relics Residency (BSR). BSR is a new performance residency about slavery, justice and freedom. The 2019 BSR Residency will support the development of two new performance works that address and incorporate the public histories of slavery and contemporary issues of justice. The artists-in-residence should pay particular attention to land-based histories of both the slave trade and its legacies on the Eastern seaboard of the United States as well as histories of chattel slavery, fugitivity and liberation. Outdoor Sculpture Seeking Outdoor Sculpture and Installations for the 5th “Art In the Orchard” biennial in Easthampton, MA. The event will draw approximately 30,000 visitors from August 10th to November 24th and feature 30 works. Selected artists receive a $500 honorarium. Work containing elements of whimsical, absurd, surreal and those that elicit emotional responses are encouraged as well as kinetic and site-specific work. Learn more.

Visual Artist Award The biennial Prilla Smith Brackett Award honors an outstanding woman visual artist based in the Greater Boston area and is intended to draw attention to her exceptional contributions to the field and region. Recipients receive a $15,000 cash award to be used at the artist’s discretion, including to assist in career advancement through support for travel, research, early project development, project completion, studio costs, catalogue production, etc. Learn more.

Call to Artists The Natick Center Cultural District and the Town of Natick are excited to announce the second Call for Creatives to propose public works of art and design in Natick Center. All works produced for this Call are considered permanent works of art. As such, ultimate approval of their selection and location will rest with the Town’s Board of Selectmen and any other boards, commissions or agencies (as required). Selected finalists will receive an award of $500 for design concepts and up to an additional $1,500 for fabricating and installing selected proposals (the maximum award granted will be $2,000 for design, fabrication and installation of a selected concept).
