Jodi Colella (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Fellow ’19), Cynthia Consentino (Crafts Fellow ’07), Niho Kozuru (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Fellow ’09), and Megumi Naitoh (Crafts Fellow ’03) are among the artists exhibiting in Shelter, Place, Social, Distance at the newly reopened Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton (thru 11/22). Several past Mass Cultural Council awardees were among the award-winners of the 20th Annual Massachusetts Book Awards: Raul Gonzalez III (Painting Fellow ’16) received the Picture Book/Early Reader Award for ¡Vamos! Let’s Go to the Market (Versify); Karen Skolfield (Poetry Fellow ’14) received the Poetry Award for The Battle Dress (Norton); Grace Talusan (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’02) received the Nonfiction Award for The Body Papers (Restless Books); and Oliver de la Paz‘s (Poetry Fellow ’20) The Boy in the Labyrinth (U of Akron Press) was named a Poetry Honor book. A number of other Fellows and Finalists are among the “Must Reads” selections.
Joel Janowitz (Painting Fellow ’16, ’08, ’79, ’75), Catherine Kernan (Drawing & Printmaking Finalist ’16), Debra Olin (Drawing & Printmaking Finalist ’18), and Nina Wishnok (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’06) are among the artists exhibiting in Singular and Serial at Cove Street Arts in Portland, ME (thru 9/19). Catherine Kernan also co-curated the exhibition.

Kim Adrian (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’06) has an online event (with Alden Jones) in conjunction with her new book Dear Knausgaard, a feminist critique of Karl Ove Knausgaard’s My Struggle, at Brookline Booksmith (9/3, 7 PM). She was recently did a podcast interview on Lit Hub and a print interview with Publishers Weekly.
Cree Bruins (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’10) has a solo exhibition, Drawn to Film, at Kingston Gallery (thru 9/20).
Kim Carlino (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow 16) is featured in a video in the (413)Art series.
Kelley Donovan (Choreography Fellow ’12) is hosting a monthly Online Virtual SpeakEasy featuring dance, poetry and other arts, usually on the 4th Saturday of the month (9/26, 10/24, 11/21, 12/12). Any artist may apply and viewers may join, the event is donation based.
Tsar Fedorsky (Photography Fellow ’15) has work in the Yellow Rose Project, a photographic collaboration of responses, reflections, and reactions to the 19th Amendment from over one hundred women across the United States. She also has work in the online exhibition In the Moment at Rocky Neck Art Colony.
Ken Field (Music Composition Finalist ’17) has a new digital album available, Iridescence.
Beth Galston (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Fellow ’13) has a retrospective exhibition of models from her public art projects, called Built and Imagined, at the Gleason Public Library in Carlisle, now open by appointment (thru 12/5).
Basia Goszczynska (Film & Video Fellow ’13) has work (entitled Fertile Fragility) on view at Room 68 in Provincetown (thru 9/16).
Eric Gottesman (Photography Fellow ’09) will take place in an online discussion, 2020 Awakening: Reimagining Art for the New Normal, on 9/3, 5 PM ET, hosted by Artadia and Artist Relief.
Sara Hendren (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’18) recently published her nonfiction book What Can a Body Do?: How We Meet the Built World. An excerpt from the book was featured on Slate.com.
Nona Hershey (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’04) has a solo exhibition, The Cloud, at Soprafina Gallery (thru 9/26). The artists will be the gallery 9/5 and 9/26, 2-4 PM.
Marky Kauffmann (Photography Fellow ’17) has work in the Yellow Rose Project, photographs exploring the 19th Amendment. She also has work in the online exhibition Hybrid, sponsored by Analog Forever Magazine, and her work was selected for issue two of the print publication. Recently, the artist received a 2nd Place award in the exhibit Photography Without a Lens: An Exploration of Alternative Processes at the Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts in Providence, RI, which is currently online but is planned for the gallery in June 2021.
Anne Leone (Painting Finalist ’20) is exhibiting paintings CK Contemporary in San Francisco.
Congratulations to GennaRose Nethercott (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’18), who just signed a two-book deal with Knopf Vintage, including a novel (currently titled Thistlefoot) and a short story collection (titled 50 Beasts to Break Your Heart). Mary O’Malley (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’06) is a finalist for the 2019 Piscataqua Region Artist Advancement Grant from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation. Impact, an exhibit featuring the winner and the two finalists, is on view at the University of New Hampshire Museum of Art (thru 11/20). Mary O’Malley will conduct an online artist talk 10/7, 12:10 PM.
Monica Raymond‘s (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’13) poem After the Fire was selected to receive the 2020 E.E. Cummings Prize from the New England Poetry Club. There will be an awardees’ reading 9/13, 3 PM. The artist also has poems forthcoming in Leaping Clear, which will go live 9/22. Her monologue “A Ventilator” is published in Monadnock Writers Anthology Penning the Pandemic, released August 2020.
Rishi Reddi‘s (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’04) novel Passage West is a finalist for a New England Book Award.
Mehmet Ali Sanlikol (Music Composition Finalist ’19) has composed and created a new album, The Rise Up (released 8/21). The album was commissioned by and features NEA Jazz Master Dave Liebman and received both the Copland and New Music USA grants. Watch a video for a song from the album, A Vicious Murder, blending animation and performance footage.
Lynda Schlosberg (Painting Fellow ’20) has a solo exhibition, Never Forgotten, at Kingston Gallery (9/23-10/18).
