Fellows Notes is a monthly listing of the latest news from awardees in our Artist Fellowships Program.
Rosanna Alfaro (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’11), Patrick Gabridge (Dramatic Writing Finalist ’17, ’15), John Kuntz (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’15), Greg Lam (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’19), John Minigan (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’19), Nina Louise Morrison (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’17), R.D. Murphy (Dramatic Writing Finalist ’15), and Cassie Seinuk (Dramatic Writing Finalist ’17) are among the playwrights whose plays are in the Boston Theater Marathon XXII (thru 5/17). The Marathon includes 10-minute plays, usually performed over the course of a day in Boston. But due to the COVID-19 crisis, the selected plays are performed via live reading on Zoom, daily. Proceeds from the Marathon go to the Theatre Community Benevolent Fund. Liars and Believers, who performed Greg Lam’s play Interventions, posted a video.
Hannah Barrett (Painting Fellow ’04) and Laurel Sparks (Painting Fellow ’04) have work in Love Match, an exhibition featuring artist pairs who are life partners, at Drive-By Projects in Watertown. Due to COVID-19, the gallery is currently closed, but you can see images from the exhibition online. The gallery is extending the dates for Love Match until 6/13.
Stephen DiRado (Photography Fellow ’11, ’03, ’91, ’87), Kristen Joy Emack (Photography Fellow ’19), David Hilliard (Photography Fellow ’17), Michael Joseph (Photography Fellow ’15), Rania Matar (Photography Fellow ’11, ’07), Toni Pepe (Photography Finalist ’11), and Sage Sohier (Photography Fellow ’79) are all included in the online exhibition Devotion, curated by Elin Spring and Suzanne Révy.
Nicole Duennebier (Painting Fellow ’16) recently exhibited “large-scale” paintings in The Shelter in Place Gallery, an innovative project of Eben Haines (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’18). The project was featured in the arts journal Hyperalleric.
Congratulations to Marti Epstein (Music Composition Fellow ’05), Eric Gottesman (Photography Fellow ’09), Steve Locke (Photography Finalist ’17, Painting Finalist ’14), and Lisa Olstein (Poetry Fellow ’06), who were selected to receive 2020 Guggenheim Fellowships.

Clint Baclawski (Photography Fellow ’19) created the new work After The Fall, which will be the featured artwork in the meditation space in a new wing of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Chestnut Hill, MA. The space is set to open later in 2020.
Hannah Barrett (Painting Fellow ’04) was interviewed and featured in an Artadia Awardia Spotlight.
Erica Charis-Molling (Poetry Fellow ’20) has a new writing website.
Jay Critchley (Drawing & Prinmaking Finalists ’96, Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Finalist ’91) is leading The Provincetown Community Compact, which invited artists of all genres to re-imagine and recreate a response to the first democratic document in the “New” World of 1620: The Mayflower Compact.
Oliver de la Paz (Poetry Fellow ’20) and his poetry were recently featured in The Rumpus.
Xujun Eberlein (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’08) wrote the essay The Summer before Thirteen, published in AGNI’s spring issue.
Lara Egger (Poetry Fellow ’20) has a poem published in Washington Square Review.
Tsar Fedorsky (Photography Fellow ’15) has photography is the June 2020 issue of Black & White Magazine. She recently added images from her series The Light Across the Border to her website.
Dana Filibert (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres ’15) announced she has launched an Etsy store, Curios by Dana.
Jane Gillooly‘s (Film & Video Fellow ’19, ’13, ’07, ’96) film Where the Pavement Ends, a documentary exploring the history and racial divide of the area surrounding Ferguson, MO, will have its Broadcast Premiere on America ReFramed on PBS World Channel (5/5).
Alexis Ivy‘s (Poetry Fellow ’18) new poetry collection, Taking the Homeless Census, is published 5/5 by Saturnalia Books. The was recently featured on ArtSake with an audio reading of the titular poem. She was also recently interviewed by Mass Poetry.
John J. King (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’19) is continuing to work with SpeakEasy Stage on a new play as part of The Boston Project. While on lockdown, he has collaborated with his wife Ramona Rose King to create the song/music video (Who Needs) Pants?!. They also launched a weekly web series, called Home Office, a comedy about what it’s like to work together at home (in the documentary style of The Office). The series was profiled in The Boston Globe and on BoingBoing.
Stefanie Lubkowski‘s (Music Composition Finalist ’15) solo guitar piece Drifting, commissioned by guitarist Aaron Larget-Caplan as part of his Lullaby Project, premieres in the livestream performance Night Transfigured: Contemporary Music & Visuals with Aaron Larget-Caplan & Laura Sofia Pérez (5/24, 1:30 PM and 7:30 PM).
Rania Matar (Photography Fellow ’11, ’07) was featured in The Boston Globe for her current project taking photographic portraits through windows and doors due to social distancing. You can see images from the project on Instagram and hear more about the project in an online studio visit by Gallery Pictura (5/8, 6PM).
Adam Mazo (Film & Video Finalist ’17) has numerous upcoming screenings of his films with Ben Pender-Cudlip, Dawnland and Dear Georgina.
Caitlin McCarthy‘s (Dramatic Writing Finalist ’11) portrait is among those featured in the I Am Worcester project.
Rachel Perry‘s (Photography Fellow ’17, Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Fellow ’09, Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’04) video art Karaoke Wrong Number is available to view on the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston’s website until 5/13/20. Though currently closed to in-person visits, the museum is periodically sharing work from its collection and programming online.
Monica Raymond (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’13) wrote three different monologues for the Quick Quarantined Play Festival, one set in Feb 2020, one in the present, and one in the future, all related in some way to the pandemic.
Mara Superior (Crafts Fellow ’17, ’05) is among the artists featured in an online version of the exhibition Nature/Nurture at Ferrin Gallery, on view on Artsy.
Linda K. Wertheimer Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Finalist ’14) was named a ’20/’21 Spencer Fellow at Columbia University.
