Diane Arvanites and Tommy Neblett (Choreography Fellows ’14, ’08, ’04, ’96, ’94), Emily Beattie (Choreography Fellow ’18), and Joel LaRue Smith (Music Composition Finalist ’17) all received Live Arts Boston (LAB) grants from the Boston Foundation.
Steven Bogart (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’15), William Donnelly (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’05), Patrick Gabridge (Dramatic Writing Finalist ’17, ’15), John J. King (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’19), Greg Lam (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’19), John Minigan (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’19), Eric Henry Sanders (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’09), and Cassie Seinuk (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’17) are among the playwrights whose 10-minute plays will be performed during the Boston Theater Marathon at Boston Center for the Arts Calderwood Pavilion (5/19)
Caleb Cole (Photography Fellow ’15), Steven Duede (Photography Finalist ’17), Beth Galston (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Fellow ’13, ’84), Joo Lee Kang (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’12), Mary Kocol (Film & Video Fellow ’99), and Randal Thurston (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Finalist ’07) have work in Avant Gardens at the Newport Art Museum in Rhode Island (thru 9/8).
Patrick Donnelly (Poetry Fellow ’08) and January Gill O’Neil (Poetry Finalist ’18) read at the Brookline Public Library Main Branch (5/19, 2 PM).
James Dye (Drawing & Printmaking Finalist ’18), Howard Johnson (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’02, ’98), and Kat O’Connor (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’18) are all exhibiting in The Eighteenth ArtsWorcester Biennial (5/2-6/8, opening reception 5/2, 6-9 PM).
Steve Locke (Photography Finalist ’17, Painting Finalist ’14) and Matt Rich (Painting Fellow ’10, Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Finalist ’09) join Bryon Kim for an exhibition at LaMontagne Gallery in Boston (thru 5/21, opening reception 5/3, 6-8 PM).

Sophia Ainslie (Painting Fellow ’12) just completed a commissioned mural at Harvard University’s Student Center – The Richard A. + Susan F. Smith Campus Center.
Matt Brackett (Painting Fellow ’04, Finalist ’12) is exhibiting his politically-charged painting series Bitter Chill in a solo exhibition called We Need the Storm at the Boston City Hall Mayor’s Art Gallery (thru 5/31).
Cree Bruins (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’10) joins Sarah Hollis Perry for the exhibition Reflecting (Then and Now) at Kingston Gallery in Boston (5/1-6/2, opening reception 5/3, 5-8 PM).
Cheryl Clark Vermulean (Poetry Finalist ’10) reads with Don Wellman at the Gloucester Writers Center (5/8, 7:30 PM).
Georgie Friedman (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Fellow ’13) has an exhibition of installations, photographs, and sketches, Georgie Friedman: Fragments of Antarctica, at Museum of Fine Arts Boston (thru 9/15).
Cristina Kotz Cornejo (Film & Video Fellow ’13) will receive an American Spirit Award (along with Larry King, Henry Winkler, and others). The award is presented by The Caucus for Producers, Writers & Directors to “individuals who support, protect and promote the interests of storytellers” at an event in Los Angeles 5/29.
Julie Mallozzi‘s (Film & Video Finalist ’15, ’07) documentary film Circle Up will have its broadcast premiere on America ReFramed (5/14).
Ilana Manolson‘s (Painting Fellow ’18, ’08) solo exhibition at Cadogan Contemporary Gallery in London extends through 5/10. The show was favorably reviewed in Creative Boom, and she was interviewed for The London Magazine.
Caitlin McCarthy (Dramatic Writing Finalist ’11) will participate in the event Idol Talk: A Magical Memory Tour of Teen Idols at the Firehouse Center for the Arts in Newburyport (5/10 and 5/11, 8 PM). The event is centered on the anthology Idol Talk, to which McCarthy was a contributor.
Sean Padraic McCarthy (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’16) published his debut novel In the Midst of the Sea on 5/1.
John Minigan (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’19) won a Gold Prize in Portland Stage’s Clauder Competition for his play Queen of Sad Mischance, which will have a workshop performance in May. His 10-minute play Closing Doors is in the Boston Theater Marathon at Boston Center for the Arts Calderwood Pavilion (5/19). His play Noir Hamlet, produced by Centastage last June, is nominated for the Elliot Norton Award for Outstanding New Script.
Rachel Perry (Photography Fellow ’17, Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Fellow ’09, Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’04) has a solo exhibition, Rachel Perry: We Are Open, as the inaugural exhibition at Middlesex School‘s Ishibashi Gallery. Monica Raymond (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’13) reads “Poems and Tales inspired by the photos of Fran Forman,” along with writer Nancer Ballard, at the Brandeis University Women’s Studies Research Center (5/8, 12:30-2 PM).
Congratulations to Tracy Heather Strain and Randall MacLowry (Film & Video Fellows ’07), whose film Lorraine Hansberry: Sighted Eyes, Feeling Heart won a Peabody Award.
Naoe Suzuki (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’06) has work in the exhibition Meditative Nature at Gallery Tempo in Brookline (5/5-5/28). Her art is included in the publication WordPower: Language as Medium, published by Library X in UK. Be Water, My Friend, a catalog of her artwork, was published and is now available.
