Fellows Notes is a monthly listing of the latest news from awardees in our Artist Fellowships Program.
Kati Agocs (Music Composition Fellow ’15), Michael Gandolfi (Music Composition Fellow ’03), and David Sanford (Music Composition Fellow ’20) are among the composers whose work is being featured on Boston Modern Orchestra Project’s BMOP Radio.
LEF New England announced its Spring 2020 Production and Post-Production grantees, with 11 Moving Image Fund grants totaling $205,000 in support of feature-length documentary works by New England-based filmmakers. Among the artists working on funded projects are past Mass Cultural Council awardees Allison Cekala (Film & Video Fellow ’15), Margo Guernsey (Film & Video Fellow ’19), Kathryn Ramey (Film & Video Fellow ’15), and Jeff Silva (Film & Video Finalist ’09).
William Ciccariello (Painting Fellow ’06) and Joshua Meyer (Painting Fellow ’10) are both exhibiting in the Rice Polak Gallery 2020 Group Show on Artsy.
The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston announced a series of new initiatives to support contemporary individual artists, including the purchase of work by 24 artists including Catarina Coelho (Drawing & Printmaking Finalist ’20), Caleb Cole (Photography Fellow ’15), Eben Haines (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’18), Lucy Kim (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Fellow ’19), and Tara Sellios (Photography Fellow ’19, ’11).
Sean Greene (Painting Fellow ’14), Robbie Heidinger (Crafts Fellow ’09), Dean Nimmer (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’00, ’96), Frank Ozereko (Crafts Fellow ’95, ’81), Kelly Popoff (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’20), Jen Simms (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Finalist ’05), and Angela Zammarelli (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Fellow ’11) are among the artists with envelope art featured in Pushing the Envelope at Pulp Gallery in Holyoke.

Rosanna Yamagiwa Alfaro‘s (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’11) play Golp was featured in the New England New Play Alliance Newsletter.
Jane Brox (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction) received a 2020 Maine Literary Award for her nonfiction book Silence.
Cree Bruins (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’10) is among the artists featured in Kingston Gallery’s online exhibition Transformations, on Artsy.
Laura Chasman (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’96) is among the artists exhibiting in We Are All Contagious, an online exhibition hosted by the UMass Dartmouth University Art Gallery (thru 8/31).
Charles Coe‘s (Poetry Fellow ’96) Love in the Time of Corona is featured by Mass Poetry as part of its The Hard Work of Hope series.
Heather Kamins‘ (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’16) short story The Girl Gangs of Pacific Avenue was featured on BuzzFeed.
Cristina Kotz Cornejo (Film & Video Fellow ’13) has been named the chair of the Visual and Media Arts (VMA) Department at Emerson College.
Margo Guernsey (Film & Video Fellow ’19), along with receiving a LEF Foundation grant (see above), is the director of Councilwoman. The documentary was part of the season of America ReFramed on PBS, which recently received a Telly Award “Gold Winner” for General Documentary Series.
Louise Laplante (Drawing & Printmaking Finalist ’04) is exhibiting in Natural Worlds at Carrie Haddad Gallery in Hudson, NY (thru 7/26).
Scott Listfield (Painting Finalist ’10) has a major solo exhibition, This Is America, at Thinkspace Projects in Culver City, CA. The show and the artist’s work were featured on the arts site Supersonic.
John Minigan‘s (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’19) play Queen of Sad Mischance was featured on an episode of Boston Podcast Players, including an interview with the playwright.
Kathryn Ramey (Film & Video Fellow ’15), along with receiving a LEF Foundation grant (see above), was selected as the 2020-21 recipient of the Harvard University Film Study Center-LEF Foundation Fellowship with her project El Signo Vacío (the empty sign). The FSC-LEF Fellowship, open to Boston-area nonfiction filmmakers who are not currently affiliated with Harvard, includes a $10,000 grant and access to FSC resources and opportunities. The inaugural, 2019-20 Harvard FSC Fellow was James Rutenbeck (Film & Video Finalist ’19, ’11).
Monica Raymond‘s (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’13) poem Waiting for the Surge is a web selection for Indolent Books’ What Rough Beast COVID-19 edition. Her poem Corona Pantoum was published in Willowdown Books’ COVID-19 Poems from the Lockdown. Her monologue “A Ventilator” was part of Theatre Is the Cure online event 5/29.
Performances of Peter Snoad‘s (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’09) short plays The Greening of Bridget Kelley and Entitled are featured on the Liars and Believers Pandemic Play page.
Jacob Strautmann (Poetry Fellow ’18) was interviewed about his poetry collection The Land of the Dead Is Open for Business on the How Did I Get Here Podcast.
Naoe Suzuki (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’06) was named a 2020 Turning the Wheel Awardee from Medicine Wheel Productions.
