Edie Bresler (Photography Fellow ’17), Caleb Cole (Photography Fellow ’15), Frank Egloff (Painting Fellow ’06, ’02), Joel Janowitz (Painting Fellow ’16, ’08, ’79, ’75), Greer Muldowney (Photography Fellow ’13), Daniel Ranalli (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’10), August Ventimiglia (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’12) are among the artists exhibiting in Water at Gallery Kayafas (thru 8/10, artist receptions 7/12 and 8/2, 5:30-8 PM).
Kristen Emack (Photography Fellow ’19), Judy Haberl (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Fellow ’95, Photography Finalist ’19), and Molly Lamb (Photography Fellow ’15) are among the artists in the Photographic Resource Center Boston Exposure 2019 exhibition at Lesley Art + Design’s Van Dernoot Gallery (7/11-8/11, opening reception 7/11, 5:30-8 PM).
Kristen Emack (Photography Fellow ’19) and Marky Kauffmann (Photography Fellow ’17) are among the artists exhibiting in the 25th Annual Juried Members Exhibition at the Griffin Museum of Photography (7/18-9/1).
Mira T. Lee (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’12), Brendan Mathews (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’12), and January Gill O’Neil (Poetry Finalist ’18) were all honored in the 2017 and 2018 Massachusetts Book Awards.
Joel Janowitz (Painting Fellow ’16, ’08, ’79, ’75) and Ilana Manolson (Painting Fellow ’18, ’08) are exhibiting in Wet at North Hill Gallery in Needham (7/12-9/30).
GennaRose Nethercott (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’18) and Julia Story (Poetry Finalist ’10) read as part of the Poets and Pints Series at Aeronaut Brewery in Somerville (7/31, 7 PM).

Steven Bogart (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’15) has paintings in exhibitions at the Fitchburg Museum of Art and the Katonah Museum of Art (both thru Sep). He is directing the world premiere of Obie Award winning playwright Kirsten Greenidge’s new play Greater Good, co-produced by Company One and The American Repertory Theater.
John Cameron (Crafts Fellow ’11) received a 2019 Artist Award from the Society of Arts + Crafts. Along with the $3,000 award, he’ll exhibit at the Society’s Seaport District gallery (7/11-9/1, opening reception 7/11, 6-9 PM).
Meghan Fredrich‘s (Film & Video Fellow ’19) film Deborah Harry Does Not Like Interviews was featured in a roundup on the online arts journal Hyperallergic.
Patrick Gabridge‘s (Dramatic Writing Finalist ’17, ’15) play Cato and Dolly is produced by Plays in Place and The Bostonian Society at The Old State House Museum in Boston (thru 8/11).
Ralf Yusuf Gawlick‘s (Music Composition Fellow ’15, ’09) autobiographical string quartet Imagined Memories (Bîrnanînên Xeyalî) (premiered at Boston College, Carnegie Hall and Vienna’s Musikverein) was recently honored with a Global Music Award in Composition. The work/recording was also selected/chosen as one of ten top albums for summer 2019.
Congratulations to Margo Guernsey (Film & Video Fellow ’19), whose film project The Philadelphia Eleven reached its Kickstarter fundraising goal and was featured as a “Project We Love.” The filmmaker’s previous film Councilwoman has its Los Angeles premiere at the LA Latino International Film Festival (8/4, 4:15 PM).
Carrie Gustafson (Crafts Fellow ’11) is among the artists exhibiting in Pivot at the Imagine Museum in St. Petersburg, FL (7/11-12/22).
Joel Janowitz (Painting Fellow ’16, ’08, ’79, ’75), along with exhibiting in numerous group shows (listed above), has a solo show called Another Shore at GWatson Gallery in Stonington, Maine (thru 7/27).
Ben Jolivet (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’13) is among the artists with short plays in the Artists’ Exchange One Act Play Festival at Theatre 82 in Cranston, RI (7/11-7/27).
Congratulations to Steve Locke (Photography Finalist ’17, Painting Finalist ’14), whose public art project Auction Block Memorial reached its Kickstarter fundraising goal and was featured as a “Project We Love.”
Mattia Mauree (Music Composition Finalist ’19) has a poem displayed at Boston City Hall as part of the City of Boston Mayor’s Poetry Program.
Richard Michelson (Poetry Fellow ’16) wrote the book for Dear Edvard, a music-theater piece which will have a concert performance in Edgartown in Martha’s Vineyard (7/12, 7 PM). The next day, he will sign copies of his books at Cousen Rose Gallery in Oak Bluffs, Martha’s Vineyard (7/13).
Maria Molteni (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Finalist ’19) created a public art project, Hard in the Paint, that was recognized for excellence by Americans for the Arts. Hard in the Paint was developed during the artist’s participation in the City of Boston’s Artist-in-Residence program.
Nina Louise Morrison‘s (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’17) new play The Vault will have a free public reading as part of the Huntington Theatre Summer Workshop (7/20, 3 PM).
GennaRose Nethercott (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’18), whose innovative literary project Lianna Fled the Cranberry Blog: A Story in Cootie Catchers reached its Kickstarter fundraising goal and was featured as a “Project We Love.” The artist wrote an essay about cootie catchers, divination, and literature for Electric Literature. As mentioned above, Nethercott will read as part of the Poets and Pints Series at Aeronaut Brewery in Somerville (7/31, 7 PM).
Kat O’Connor (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’18) is among the artists exhibiting in A Matter of Perspective at Fitchburg Art Museum (thru 9/1). Her solo exhibition This Fluid Report of Motion is at ArtsWorcester‘s East Gallery (thru 8/3).
Jo Ann Rothschild (Painting Fellow ’98) has work in the group exhibition Patterns of Influence at The Painting Center in New York (7/16-8/10, opening reception 7/18, 6-8 PM; panel discussion 8/10, 4-6 PM).
Congratulations to James Rutenbeck (Film & Video Finalist ’19, ’11), who has been awarded the first Film Study Center/LEF Foundation Fellowship, a collaborative effort by LEF and Harvard University. The award includes a $10,000 grant (jointly funded by the Film Study Center and LEF Foundation) as well as access to equipment, support, opportunities, and connections through the Harvard Film Study Center.
Mehmet Ali Sanlikol‘s (Music Composition Finalist ’19) “coffeehouse opera,” Othello in the Seraglio (which reimagines Shakespeare’s Othello as an Ottoman eunuch), is now streamable on Amazon Prime in the US and the UK.
Dariel Suarez‘s (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Finalist ’18) short story collection A Kind of Solitude is a finalist for the International Latino Book Awards, Best Collection of Short Stories category.
David Valdes (Dramatic Writing Finalist ’19, ’03), formerly known as David Valdes Greenwood, will have a free staged reading of his new play Downtown Crossing at the Boston Public Library’s Newsfeed Café (7/27, 2 PM). The play is based on undocumented immigrants, DACA recipients, immigrant rights advocates, community organizers, and family members of the undocumented from the Greater Boston area. Read the playwright discussing his work with real people/real stories.
Diane Wald (Poetry Fellow ’83) was recently awarded first place in the Next Generation Indie Book Awards, in the novella category, for her book Gillyflower.
