Steve Almond (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’08) and Grace Talusan (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’02) are among this year’s National Endowment for the Arts Creative Writing Fellows.
Kim Carlino (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’16) and Michele Lauriat (Painting Fellow ’20) join Jane Sherrill for the works on paper exhibition Passing the Edge at Fort Point Arts Community Gallery (thru 2/24).
Rebecca Doughty (Painting Finalist ’10), Andrea Sherrill Evans (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’12), Candice Smith Corby (Painting Fellow ’08), and Helena Wurzel (Painting Finalist ’16, ’10) are among the artists in Vignettes at Drive-By Projects (thru 3/26).
Dawn Lundy Martin (Poetry Fellow ’06, ’02) and Grace Talusan (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’02) are among the artists selected to receive United States Artists Fellowships, unrestricted $50,000 awards, with a year of financial planning.
Nathalie Miebach (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Fellow ’17, ’09) curated and Evan Morse (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Fellow ’17) is among the artists exhibiting in Human/Nature at Mosesian Center for the Arts in Watertown (2/14-4/22, opening reception 2/17, 5:30-7:30 PM ET).

Elizabeth Alexander (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Fellow ’11) has work in Reckoning and Resilience: North Carolina Art Now at Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University (thru 7/10). She also has work in Patterns of Power at Empty Set in NYC (thru 3/19).
Steven Cramer (Poetry Fellow ’14) reads in the virtual event What The Universe Is: Gustavo Hernandez and Steven Cramer (2/10, 7:30 PM ET).
Rebecca Doughty (Painting Finalist ’10), along with exhibiting in Vignettes at Drive-By Projects (see above), is exhibiting work online on Artsy through the Schoolhouse Gallery in Provincetown.
Nicole Duennebier (Painting Fellow ’16) has a solo exhibition, Feast, at Nucleus Gallery in Portland ME (thru 2/7).
Madge Evers‘ (Photography Finalist ’21) solo exhibition, The New Herbarium moves to Williston Northampton School (thru 3/23, opening reception 2/26).
Samantha Fields (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Fellow ’11) has a solo exhibition, Space Between the Warps at LaMontagne Gallery in Boston (2/18-3/26, opening reception 2/18, 5-8 PM ET). The artist will run Hand Space / Head Space: Stitching Together events 3/10, 3/15, and 3/24, 6:30-8:30 PM ET.
Jane Gillooly‘s (Film & Video Fellow ’19, ’13, ’07, ’96) film Where the Pavement Ends, a documentary exploring the history and racial divide of the area surrounding Ferguson, MO, has an encore broadcast on PBS WORLD Channel (2/8, 8 PM ET) and is streaming on the American ReFramed website.
Sean Greene (Painting Fellow ’14) has a solo exhibition, Belief Systems, at the Perimeter Gallery in Chase’s Daily restaurant in Belfast ME (thru 3/12).
Kelle Groom‘s (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’20) essay Postcards of the Night Sky will be published in the Spring ’22 issue of AGNI.
Jonathan Bailey Holland‘s (Music Composition Fellow ’21) composition Stories from Home is performed as part of Our Stories, Ourselves by New England Philharmonic at Tsai Performance Center (2/26, 8 PM ET).
Brece Honeycutt (Drawing & Printmaking Finalist ’18) has launched A Bird to overhear, a multimedia video project made in collaboration with Copy Press UK for their Becoming Fireflies series.
Marky Kauffmann (Photography Fellow ’17) has a solo exhibition, Prayer Images, at the Munroe Center for the Arts in Lexington (thru 2/18). She has work in Alternative Processes: Another Way of Seeing at the Plaxall Gallery in Queens, NY (thru 2/6) and Inside Out at the Nave Gallery in Somerville (thru 2/27). She was selected by YourDailyPhotograph.com as one of their Hot 100 photographers of 2021.
Lucy Kim (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Fellow ’19) was selected to receive a 2022 Creative Capital Award.
Joy Ladin‘s (Poetry Finalist ’22, Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Finalist ’12) revised edition of The Book of Anna received a National Jewish Book Award. The artist’s new book, Shekhinah Speaks, is due out in March from Selva Oscura, and an essay about the process of writing about it was published in Poetry magazine and won their Editors Prize for Feature Article. The artist’s poetry will be published in Liber: A Feminist Review and was featured on an episode of the Queer Theology podcast.
Melinda Lopez‘s (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’19, ’03) new play Young Nerds of Color premieres at Central Square Theater, directed by Dawn M. Simmons (2/17-3/20). Read about it in WBUR. Also, her play Mr. Parent streams on the Lyric Stage Company of Boston website (thru 2/20).
Cynthia Maurice (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’02) had work in Somerville as Muse: 12 Artists Influenced by the City at Brickbottom Gallery in Somerville. She also has work in Arts Connect at the Catamount Arts, St Johnsbury VT.
Wilhelm Neusser (Painting Finalist ’20) has a solo exhibition of paintings, in flux, at Galeri Knecht and Burster in Karlsruhe, Germany (thru 3/5).
Kelly Popoff (Painting Fellow ’20) is among the artists exhibiting in Invisible at ArtYard in Frenchtown NJ (thru 4/22).
Jendi Reiter‘s (Poetry Fellow ’10) third full-length poetry collection, Made Man, will be released in March by Little Red Tree Publishing. They will read at the Bureau of General Services-Queer Division in NYC (4/9, 7 PM ET).
Allison Maria Rodriguez (Film & Video Finalist ’21) will discuss her work in the virtual event Looking for Answers in the Galápagos, part of Catalyst Conversations series presented in partnership with Boston Cyberarts (2/17, 6-7 ET).
Jo Ann Rothschild (Painting Fellow ’98) exhibits in Space-Color-Movement: Lyrical Realism into Poetic Abstraction at Brickbottom Gallery in Somerville (thru 2/26, reception 2/6 3-5 PM ET).
Leslie Sills (Painting Finalist ’84) received a 2021 Artist Resource Trust Grant recipient from The Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation.
Tracy Heather Strain (Film & Video Fellow ’19, ’07) received a $50,000 Chicken & Egg Award, which supports six advanced-career women and gender nonconforming filmmakers with unrestricted funding.
Shubha Sunder‘s (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’16) short story collection Boomtown Girl won the St. Lawrence Book Award and will be published by Black Lawrence Press.
Special congratulations to Grace Talusan (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’02) for the recognition she has received this year. As mentioned above, she was announced as a National Endowment for the Arts Creative Writing Fellow and a United States Artist Fellow, two of the highest honors for an artist in the country. Earlier this year, she received a Brother Thomas Fellowships from the Boston Foundation.
Debra Weisberg (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’08) has work in Wonderfully Tactile at the Four Points Gallery in Torrington CT (thru 2/12). She has a solo exhibition Holding the Center Still opening at Piano Craft Gallery in Boston in March.
Deb Todd Wheeler (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Fellow ’03) has video works in the virtual event Living in Your Wilderness, part of the New Gallery Concert Series (2/6, 7 PM ET).
Yu-Wen Wu (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Fellow ’21, Painting Fellow ’04) is among the artists in the Augmented Reality Learning Program from Boston Cyberarts, in collaboration with Emerson Contemporary.
