Fellows Notes is a monthly listing of the latest news from awardees in our Artist Fellowships Program.
Here’s what’s happening in December:
Clint Baclawski (Photography Fellow ’19) has new work in the Holiday Pop-Up in Boston’s South End. His new site-specific installation Bough, commissioned by the Jewish Arts Collaborative, is on view for eight nights. His work After The Fall is the featured artwork in the meditation space in a new wing of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Chestnut Hill, MA.
Aya Yamasaki Brown and Jason Brown (Film & Video Fellows ’17), also known as Opertura, are among artists recently awarded Artist Residency Fellowships at the Studios at MASS MoCA by Assets for Artists.
Kim Carlino (Drawing & Printmaking Fellow ’16) will hold a virtual and in-person Open Studios sale (12/5-12/6).
Christopher Castellani‘s (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’16) novel Leading Men will be adapted into a film for Searchlight Pictures.
Timothy Coleman (Crafts Fellow ’11) has furniture in the New Hampshire Furniture Masters exhibition Alone Together. See it online.
Ken Field (Film & Video Finalist ’17) performs his composition Stream as part of the Interlude virtual series from the Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center.
Magdalena Gomez (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’01), who is Poet Laureate of Springfield, was interviewed by Mass Poetry.
Lisa Gruenberg (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Fellow ’12) has an online discussion of her book My City of Dreams at Vilna Shul, Boston’s Center for Jewish Culture (12/10, 7 PM-8:15 PM).
Andrea Hairston (Dramatic Writing Fellow ’03) was interviewed on Tor.com about two upcoming novels and publisher’s plan to release her backlist.
Brian Knep (Sculpture/Installation/New Genres Fellow ’11) is featured in a virtual Catalyst Conversations event (12/2, 6-7 PM).
Scott Listfield (Painting Finalist ’10) curated and has paintings in Franchise Three a virtual exhibition hosted by Gallery 1988 (opening 12/4, 3 PM EST, with an Instagram Live walk-through at the time of the opening).
Holly Lynton (Photography Fellow ’13) gives a free Zoom talk on her work, hosted by the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center (12/3, 7 PM).
Tara Lynn Masih (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction Finalist ’96) published a collaborative flash novelette (with James Claffey) in October, The Bitter Kind. Read a review in Necessary Fiction.
Rania Matar (Photography Fellow ’11, ’07) participates in the virtual chat, The Artists Voice: Rania Matar, at the Institute of Contemporary Art / Boston (12/3, 6:30 PM), where her work is included in i’m yours: Encounters with Art in Our Times (thru 5/23). She has photography in Being Seen at The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota FL (thru 1/3); A Tacit Inheritance at Herron School of Art + Design in Indianapolis IN (thru 1/10); Escape Routes at the Bangkok Arts Biennale 2020 (thru 1/31); and Breaking the Frame: Women Artists in the Harn Collections at the Harn Museum of Art, Gainesville, FL (thru 5/2/21). She was featured in Prestige Magazine and her forthcoming book from Radius Books, Rania Matar: SHE, is available for pre-order.
Sandra Matthews‘ (Photography Finalist ’17) photobook Present Moments is included in the 11th Annual Self-Published Photobook Exhibition, sponsored by the Davis Orton Gallery and the Griffin Museum of Photography, currently online.
Caitlin McCarthy (Dramatic Writing Finalist ’11) was featured in a segment on Spectrum News 1 Worcester about her screenplay Wonder Drug moving ahead with Rhino Films. McCarthy was recently honored in a Resolution by the Worcester City Council.
James Rutenbeck (Film & Video Finalist ’19, ’11) co-directed the documentary film Childsplay: The Parting Glass, about the final concert of the ensemble founded by violin maker Bob Childs. The film broadcasts on Boston GBH 44 (12/19, 10 PM).
Leslie Sills (Crafts Fellow ’95) has a painting in the traveling exhibition Imagining Freedom, currently at Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge (thru 1/17). The exhibition, which explores themes from Rockwell’s work including the Four Freedoms paintings, went on a six-city tour before arriving in Stockbridge.
Kevin Young (Poetry Fellow ’10) is the editor of a new Library of America Anthology, African American Poetry: 250 Years of Struggle & Song.
